Lotus Worldwide Introduction of SmartSuite for Windows 95 Kicks Off at
September 5 User Event

Launches Road Show and New Naming Convention

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 14, 1995 -- Lotus Development Corp. reported today
that it will announce pricing, availability and promotions for SmartSuite
for Windows 95 on September 5. The announcement will take place at the
Houston Area League (HAL) PC User Group meeting in Houston, Texas. A major
annual event, the HAL-PC User Group meeting will mark the launch of Lotus'
10-city seminar series throughout the United States and Canada to
demonstrate the company's next generation Team Computing desktop
applications.

This year, more than 2,000 influential users will attend the HAL-PC event
and receive a firsthand preview of Lotus' breakthrough Team Computing
applications for Windows 95 and OS/2. The audience will also be treated to
a special guest appearance by champion race car driver Robby Gordon, whose
presence will underscore the critical role of teamwork (such as that
between drivers and their pit crews) in any individual's success. Other
special events at the HAL-PC meeting will include an exhibition
spotlighting Lotus Business Partners demonstrating their custom desktop
applications, as well as software giveaways and a grand prize drawing for
an IBM Think Pad laptop computer.

The highlight of the program, Lotus' live product demonstrations, will
drive home the advantage of effective collaboration with unique Team
Computing features, such as TeamReview, TeamConsolidate, TeamMail and
Version Manager.

"Leveraging our experience with both desktop and communications products,
we have designed Team Computing products that help individuals and teams
achieve better results -- faster," said Bob Weiler, senior vice president
of Lotus' Desktop Business Group. "Our products provide genuine value, not
features for features' sake, by supporting the complete work process from
collection of raw ideas, to collaboration on projects, to sharing the
value of finished work. Customers deserve more value and Lotus desktop
applications deliver it."

Worldwide Launch

A worldwide satellite broadcast will take place for thousands of key
customers, business partners and their customers and IBM sites. Interested
parties will be able to participate remotely in the festivities in a
variety of ways. There will be a real-time interactive broadcast of the
HAL-PC meeting taking place on America Online's Computer Rotunda. This
broadcast will include a special question and answer session with user
group panelists in which both online and on-site attendees can
participate. Lotus will also conduct a "virtual" launch event on the
Worldwide Web, accessible from the Lotus home page (http://www.Lotus.com).
Web activities are designed to mirror the information and experiences of
the actual meeting. Lotus plans to conduct similar launch events in
several international locations soon after September 5.

Lotus Unveils New Desktop Naming System

Lotus also introduces its new Calendar Numbering System for desktop
products and will no longer employ the widely used numerical method. In an
effort to alleviate customer confusion resulting from non-sequential
release numbers, Lotus has devised a new naming system for its entire
desktop, including SmartSuite. For example: Lotus' word-processing
application for the Windows 95 platform will be called Lotus Word Pro 96
Edition for Windows 95. The term "96 Edition" indicates the period of time
the application will remain on the market and "for Windows 95" indicates
the platform. Lotus will also use this naming convention for OS/2 desktop
products (e.g., Lotus Word Pro 96 Edition for OS/2).

Lotus Development Corp., a subsidiary of IBM Corp., offers high quality
software products and support services that reflect the company's unique
understanding of the new ways in which individuals and businesses must
work together to achieve success. Lotus' innovative approach is evident in
a new class of applications that allows information to be accessed and
communicated in ways never before possible, both within and beyond
organizational boundaries. The company also provides numerous support
services, both from its consulting division and its award-winning 24-hour
support center.

All prices and terms are for the USA only.
