INFORMIX ANNOUNCES FAMILY OF GRAPHICAL DEVELOPMENT TOOLS NOW AVAILABLE FOR
MULTIPLE DATABASE ACCESS

New Versions of ViewPoint and ViewPoint Pro Enhanced to Support OnLine
Dynamic Server

MENLO PARK, Calif. (August 15, 1995) -- Informix Software Inc.
(NASDAQ:IFMX) today announced that the latest release of its query and
database access management tools, INFORMIX-NewEra ViewPoint, and
INFORMIX-NewEra ViewPoint Pro, now support access to multiple relational
databases. Developers can now select any of Informix's graphical tools to
develop database applications or query and write reports to access data
from non-Informix databases, as well as Informix databases.

Versions 2.1 of ViewPoint and ViewPoint Pro, give end-users and application
developers the capability to connect to non-Informix databases such as
Oracle and Sybase, through Microsoft's ODBC (Open Database Connectivity),
and connect to IBM relational databases such as DB2, and DB2/400 through
INFORMIX-Gateway with DRDA, Informix's connectivity gateway software. In
addition, ViewPoint and ViewPoint Pro will also be able to take advantage
of security and naming services based on OSF's Distributed Computing
Environment (DCE), through INFORMIX-DCE/NET connectivity software.

"In the world of enterprise computing, it is not unusual to have a mixture
of different relational databases running in various departments," said
Geoff Roach, director of application development tools for Informix. "With
our open graphical tools, Informix gives developers the flexibility to
build their applications and deploy them with access to any number of data
stores. This open approach gives customers the ease of learning and using
one tool, which reduces MIS and company costs in having developers relearn
a new tool every time they need to access data from a different database
vendor."

In addition to multiple data access, ViewPoint and ViewPoint Pro, have been
enhanced in key performance areas of query construction and execution in
order to take advantage of the parallel capabilities of INFORMIX-OnLine
Dynamic Server.

About ViewPoint and ViewPoint Pro

INFORMIX-NewEra ViewPoint is an end user graphical access tool designed to
give end users the ability to retrieve and present data stored in
corporate or departmental databases. ViewPoint provides an easy-to-use
graphical user interface that hides SQL and the complexities of a
relational database. As a result, end users can create and run their own
customized forms, reports and queries without having to understand SQL or
the underlying database schema.

INFORMIX-NewEra ViewPoint Pro is a complete suite of graphical development
tools designed to provide an easy-to-use, codeless development environment
for creating small to mid-size database applications for both data-entry
and access purposes. ViewPoint Pro features a graphical form painter,
report writer, and application screen builder as well as a database schema
builder, SQL editor, and SuperView builder (for creating highly
specialized views to the database that simplify the access, retrieval, and
analysis of data from relational databases). Each of the ViewPoint Pro
components are fully integrated within an intuitive, mouse-driven
environment that enables programmers to quickly develop user-friendly,
graphical applications without having to write any code.Price and
Availability

Informix has reduced the price of ViewPoint and ViewPoint Pro with the
release of versions 2.1. ViewPoint is now priced at $299 and ViewPoint Pro
at $499. U.S. customers who have previous versions of the product and have
a current maintenance contract, may upgrade free of charge. Both products
are currently available for order today for the Microsoft Windows
platform. UNIX versions for both products on Sun Microsystems Solaris, IBM
RS/6000, and Hewlett Packard are scheduled for shipment in the third
quarter of this year.
