HP, KODAK PROMOTION MAKES IT A SNAP TO ADD COLOR PICTURES TO DOCUMENTS

HP DeskJet 855C Printer, Combined with Kodak Photo CD Technology, Makes it
Simple for Even Novice Users to Produce Attention-getting Documents

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 31, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced
a promotion with Kodak that will make it a snap for people to add color
pictures to their documents using popular word processing software.

The special offer brings together the new HP DeskJet 855C printer, a fast
color inkjet printer designed for small business, and the Kodak Photo CD
system, an innovative way of delivering high-resolution color pictures to
the desktop. The result for customers will be easy-to-create newsletters,
proposals, flyers and other documents that are full of attention-getting
color pictures.

A promotional bundle, valued at $50, is included in specially marked
printer boxes and will provide customers with all the essentials listed
here:

The DeskJet 855C printer, a fast and powerful color printer that produces
crisp black text at up to 7 pages per minute (ppm) and photo-quality color
images and graphics at up to 3 ppm.

A mailer that provides free film processing and transfer to a Kodak Photo
CD disc for one roll of print or slide film (up to 24 exposures). The
mailer can be sent to the customer's choice of more than 30 service
providers across the United States.

Information about Kodak Digital Science photo-insert software, which will
be included on the returned Kodak Photo CD disc along with the customer's
scanned images. Photo-insert software provides users with a direct link
between their Photo CD images and word processing software, such as
Microsoft(R) Word or Novell WordPerfect.

A sampler pack of HP's premium inkjet paper, including a glossy paper that
enables the DeskJet 855C printer to produce high-quality images and
documents with an impressive photographic look and feel.

This promotion is the first element of an alliance announced by HP and
Kodak in March. At that time, the two companies announced their plans to
jointly develop and market products for emerging digital-imaging
applications.

About Photo-insert Software

Kodak photo-insert software is designed to make it as easy to move color
pictures into a document as it is to cut-and-paste text today. It provides
a direct link between the images on a Kodak Photo CD disc and word
processing software that uses the Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) II
interface, such as Word and WordPerfect.

When users place their Photo CD disc into a CD-ROM drive, photo-insert
software users will see a variety of layout templates for putting pictures
into documents. They can use a template as-is, adjust it or create their
own. To insert a picture, users highlight the area in which they want a
picture to appear, select an image from the template and paste it in place
with the click of a mouse.

HP and Kodak officials expect the combination of easy access to digital
color images -- enabled by Kodak Photo CD discs and photo-insert software
-- along with lower-cost, higher-productivity printers -- such as the
DeskJet 855C printer -- to help drive demand for color and images in small
business. The special offer with HP marks the debut of the Kodak Digital
Science photo-insert software expected to become widely available later
this year through Kodak Photo CD service providers.

The promotional bundle will be available through the end of the year and is
expected to be under $600 ($719 U.S. list).

Suggested prices for HP products and services described in Access HP are
