HP POWERWISE UPSS TO PROTECT GOLF SCORING SYSTEM

Uninterruptible Power Supplies Part of PGA's Sprint International Golf
Tournament

Palo Alto, California. August 14, 1995

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that its PowerWise family of
uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) will be used to protect the
sophisticated scoring and information-retrieval system at the PGA's Sprint
International golf tournament in Castle Rock, Colorado, Aug. 14 - 20.

Robust UPS protection is vital to this tournament system as the Denver area
has a high occurrence of lightning strikes.

Fourteen HP PowerWise UPS (1000VA) will protect the jointly developed
Microsoft(R)/HP Tournament Entertainment and Education (TEE) System
scoring system, which includes Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system, a
Windows NT Server, Back Office technology and HP's latest hardware and
networking equipment.

TEE will be used by the public, players and media, and it is the most
comprehensive scoring system ever assembled for use in a major golf
tournament. The HP PowerWise UPS will monitor power status continuously,
perform self-diagnosis and warn the network manager of any network
problems. In case of emergencies, the UPS will conduct an orderly,
unattended shutdown of the network without losing scoring information.

"HP is predicting a perfect score in providing power protection for the
network that supports the TEE system," said John P. Page, program manager
at HP's New Jersey Division. "HP's PowerWise line of UPS are designed to
provide the kind of reliable, flexible and manageable protection that is
critical in the volatile Denver climate."

Developed and marketed by HP's New Jersey Division, the HP PowerWise UPS
family spans the range of power requirements to protect networks and
desktop computers against power faults and fluctuations, which may
compromise data or damage equipment.HP also provides the PowerWise
Assistant power-management software, which provides transparent,
unattended server shutdown and offers real-time and historical graphical
views of power quality, load usage and battery usage.

The Sprint International is one of 44 events on the PGA Tour tournament
schedule this year, with more than $72 million in total official prize
money. Golfing has increased in popularity in the last 10 years, with a 42
percent increase in rounds played since 1985. Some 24.3 million golfers
will play on more than 15,000 U.S. courses, with more than 400 new courses
scheduled to open this year, according to the National Golf Foundation.
