HP ANNOUNCES NEW MODEL IN NETSERVER LC SERIES

New Processor Boosts Performance of Value-Priced System

Palo Alto, California. August 14, 1995

Continuing its focus on the PC server market, Hewlett-Packard Company today
introduced a new model to its affordable and easy-to-manage HP NetServer
LC Series.

The new model is based on the Intel Pentium/100MHz processor and is
designed as a server for small- to medium-sized workgroups or remote
offices for file, print and workgroup applications. Future models in the
HP NetServer LC Series are scheduled to include the Intel Pentium 133MHz
processor.

The HP NetServer LC Series has won awards from LAN Timesand InfoWorld.
InfoWorld awarded it "Product of the Year" for 1994 in the Test Center
server category, and LAN Times dubbed it one of "The Best of Times" that
same year. These awards are based on performance, implementation of
standards, manageability and availability.

"HP drives the price/performance curve by taking industry-standard
technologies, combining them with proven system design and offering the
marketplace high value/low cost servers," said Scott Stallard, general
manager of HP's Network Server Division. "The HP NetServer LC Series
doesn't skimp on features and typically offers the same manageability
found on our top-of-the-line HP NetServer LS Series."

Strong Performance Results from Balanced System Design

The HP NetServer LC delivers strong performance by building a system that
compliments the processor. System features include the following:

  * 32MB RAM standard, expandable to 192MB RAM;
  * PCI bus for increased I/O;
  * integrated twin-channel fast SCSI-2 controller;
  * 70 ns memory; and
  * 256KB write-back cache.

The NetServer LC supports industry-leading network operating systems,
including Banyan VINES, IBM OS/2 Warp and LAN Server, Microsoft(R) Windows
NT Server, Novell NetWare, Novell UnixWare, and SCO OpenServer.

HP Makes Managing Servers Easy

The HP NetServer LC Series has several features that make it easy to
manage. It has a compact minitower design that fits easily on or under a
desk. A lockable door on the side of the LC gives easy access to internal
components such as CPU, mass storage, memory and I/O cards. The HP
NetServer 5/100 LC comes standard with 32MB RAM, a quad-speed CD ROM and
HP's NetServer Navigator.

HP NetServer Navigator is a bootable CD-ROM with comprehensive easy-to-use
tools that help users quickly configure, install and manage their servers.
The HP NetServer Navigator also includes HP NetServer Assistant 2.2
server-management software for proactive alerting and problem resolution,
including prefailure disk warning and warranty. For security, each HP
NetServer LC Series has a power-on password-locking keyboard with optional
time-out and screen-blanking capability; and enable/disable capability for
serial port, floppy drive and switches. Also available are optional
rack-mount solutions that save customers valuable space in a multiserver
environment.

The HP NetServer LC Series has built-in automatic server restart and
temperature monitoring that increase server uptime as does optional
external disk array with hot-swap disk drives.
