GRAND JUNCTION BROADENS PRODUCT LINE WITH NEXT GENERATION ETHERNET
WORKGROUP SWITCHES

Switches Combine Superior Flexibility With Exceptional Affordability

Grand Junction Networks Inc., the leader in switched 10 Mbps Ethernet and
100Base-T Fast Ethernet technologies, today introduced its next generation
FastSwitch products, a line of Ethernet workgroup switches offering
superior configuration flexibility combined with exceptional
affordability. With a choice of switches and high-speed plug-in modules,
the FastSwitch 2000 line is scaleable from small workgroup applications to
large network connectivity.

The FastSwitch 2000 line includes two new workgroup switches, the
FastSwitch 2100 and FastSwitch 2800. Each switch has 25 switched 10 Mbps
Ethernet ports and a minimum of two high-speed ports. Both products
support multiple MAC addresses on every port giving users the flexibility
to connect single workstations (private Ethernet), servers, routers, hubs
or other switches. In addition, the FastSwitch 2100, designed for
high-performance client-server workgroups, has two 100Base-TX ports for
server and backbone connectivity. The FastSwitch 2800 has two high-speed
expansion slots for FastMate 100Base-T, FDDI and, in the future, ATM
plug-in modules for superior configuration and backbone flexibility.

In addition to supporting multiple MAC addresses for private Ethernet and
10Base-T hubs, the new FastSwitch 2000 products have a minimum of two
high-speed ports, providing users with a variety of options for connecting
to backbones and servers. For example, the FastSwitch 2800 has one modular
high-speed port that can be used for 100Base-T, FDDI or, in the future,
ATM backbone connectivity, leaving a second port for a switched 100Base-T,
shared 100Base-T, FDDI or ATM connection to support a local file or print
server, a network analyzer or RMON probe, a redundant backbone connection,
or for connecting to other FastSwitches. The new switch line also offers a
choice of media types for 100Base-T and FDDI: low-cost UTP cabling for
intra-floor connections and fiber for connections requiring longer
distances and noise immunity.

To simplify network configuration and improve fault tolerance, the
FastSwitch 2000 line supports the IEEE 802.1d Spanning Tree Protocol for
redundant backbone connections and loop-free networks. The switches' port
configurable VLANs provide broadcast traffic control, firewall protection
and simplified adds, moves and changes.

Using newly developed, Grand-designed ASICs and Grand's ClearChannel, one
Gbps bus architecture, the new FastSwitch 2000 products deliver wire-speed
bridging on every 10Base-T port and aggregate forwarding bandwidth of up
to 320 Mbps. A three megabyte (MB) shared memory packet buffer virtually
eliminates packet loss and maximizes throughput. Additionally, the
switches boast low latency, 31 microseconds between 10Base-T ports; and
both support CollisionFree full-duplex 100Base-T operation for up to 200
Mbps throughput for switch-to-server or switch-to-switch connections.

With this level of performance, flexibility and prices starting as low as
$241 per port (U.S. suggested list price) for the FastSwitch 2100 and $252
per port for the FastSwitch 2800, Grand's next generation FastSwitch
workgroup switches deliver exceptional value. Price for the FastSwitch 200
products range between $6,495 and $12,290.
