Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. Makes Move into Consumer PC Card Market

FMI plugs into the PC Card arena with the creation of a new business unit
to market PC Cards through expansive distribution channels

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 31, 1995 -- In a move to expand its position in the
mobile computing industry, Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. (FMI) announced
today the creation of a PC Card Business Unit to develop and market a
family of PC Card (PCMCIA) products for business professionals. "FMI will
augment its OEM business by launching the PC Card Business Unit to offer a
completely integrated family of easy-to-install and use mobile computing
solutions into the VAR and reseller channels," said Vince Sollitto, vice
president and general manager of FMI's Business Unit Operations. "By
delivering information access anytime, anywhere, when it's needed most,
FMI will provide just the right resource "connections" for the growing
number of traveling professionals who need to remain productive -- no
matter where they work," said Sollitto.

"FMI will introduce multifunction capability and support essential for
today's digital commerce. As leading suppliers in the computer,
telecommunications, and microelectronics markets, Fujitsu has a definite
advantage in the revolution of the information industry," said John Ervin,
director of FMI PC Card Business Unit. "With a decade of experience in the
mobile computing market and consumer mobile device shipments in excess of
a million units, Fujitsu has established highly-credible distribution
channels and business-to-business alliances for successful market
penetration and leadership."

Increasing numbers of employees in Fortune 100, small and home offices are
required to travel on the job, and many of these mobile professionals are
turning to PC Card technology as a solution to enhancing productivity
while on the road or even at the desktop. Technological advances currently
being made to address problematic areas such as throughput and
compatibility will result in a dramatic increase of PC Card usage over the
next few years. As one of the fastest growing segments in the computer
industry, Dataquest forecasts the PC Card market to reach 30 million units
by 1999 from the present 3.4 million units.

With its extensive expertise in developing, manufacturing and marketing
microelectronics and computer devices, FMI is poised to bring value to the
user and give resellers a competitive advantage in the PC Card marketplace
while broadening its marketshare in one of the hottest markets of the
computing industry. With the complete backing, support, and resources of
Fujitsu, the PC Card Business Unit offers cutting-edge technology through
advanced manufacturing techniques and research and will bring to market a
family of easy-to-use PC Card solutions in Fall '95 to address the
productivity, compatibility and mobility needs of the mobile workforce.

Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. (FMI) designs and markets a comprehensive
portfolio of advanced semiconductor products and other leading-edge
electronic components. The company was founded in 1979 as a subsidiary of
