EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE GROWS WITH MARKET

Premier Forum For Embedded Design Professionals Facilitates Industry
Growth; Move To New Location Provides Largest Ever Exhibit Floor

San Francisco -- August 2, 1995 -- With a first-class technical program for
electronic design professionals, more than 65 new product announcements
and the most comprehensive product exhibition ever, this year's Embedded
Systems Conference remains the industry's most important event for
tracking developments in the growing embedded design marketplace. Now in
its seventh year, this year's conference, September 12-15, is the first to
take advantage of the expanded exhibit and classroom facilities of the San
Jose Convention Center.

According to a recent report from In-Stat, the market for high-end (16-bit
or more) embedded processors is already three times larger than the market
for personal computer and workstation processors, and will grow to more
than 865 million units per year by 1999. The Embedded Systems Conference
(ESC), the first and largest conference and exhibition devoted exclusively
to this market, continues to facilitate this rapid industry growth.

"The Embedded Systems Conference has become the major arena for users and
suppliers to discuss the issues surrounding embedded systems hardware and
software," said Ray Alderman, executive director of VITA (VME
International Trade Association). "It's particularly important to have a
place that invites synergistic discussions to determine the future
direction of embedded systems."

VITA, an ANSI-accredited standards development organization, will discuss
the status of work on ESSE (Embedded Systems Software Environment) and
other industry-wide issues at the September conference. Additionally,
dozens of companies will unveil new products and make announcements
immediately before and during the conference. Some of the new products
include:

* A toolset for hardware/software co-design that allows efficient
integration of hardware and software before prototyping.

* The first PC-based, multifunction, real-time, in-circuit emulator
  for 8-, 16-, and 32-bit applications.

* A new 486-based OEM kit that offers nearly complete system
  functionality in a four-inch by four-inch package.

* A 64-bit embedded RISC controller with up to 150 MHz operating
frequency and support for the new Multiply-Add instruction for
  embedded applications.

* The first real-time DOS extender that enables programmers to build
32-bit multimegabyte, real-time applications that take advantage of
  Windows NT features.

"Support for new standards and form factors coupled with new tools to
accelerate the system integration process highlight the product
introductions at the conference," said Lindsey Vereen, editor-in-chief of
EMBEDDED SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING magazine. "Last year's conference saw major
announcements of 486 and RISC-based embedded processors. We expect this
year's event to be equally exciting."

A key to the seven successful years of ESC shows has been the technical
classes and tutorials. This year's program features more than 100 sessions
and tutorials taught by industry experts. On a lighter note, cartoonist
Scott Adams, creator of the popular "Dilbert" comic strip, will present
the keynote address on Tuesday, September 12, at 6:00 p.m.

The Embedded Systems Conference is the premier industry event for embedded
systems software and hardware professionals. It is presented by Miller
Freeman, Inc., publisher of Embedded Systems Programming and the nation's
third largest trade show producer. A wholly owned subsidiary of United
News and Media, plc of London, England, the company produces dozens of
electronics and software conferences and trade shows, including Embedded
Systems Conference East, PCB Design Conference, Surface Mount
International, Autodesk University Conference and Exhibition, MechanCAD,
Communication Design Engineering Conference and OS/2 World Conference and
Exhibition.
