FIREFOX ANNOUNCES NOV*IX 3.0
For Managed TCP/IP Connectivity

SAN JOSE, August 21, 1995 -- Firefox Communications Inc., of San Jose,
Calif., today announced the NOV*IX 3.0 family of NetWare server-based
managed connectivity products. NOV*IX 3.0 products offer network managers
a spectrum of cost-effective, secure, easy-to-manage alternatives for
connecting to Internet and other TCP/IP environments.

Key features in the new 3.0 family of NOV*IX products include compatibility
with NetWare Directory Services (NDS), support for Novell Certified WANODI
network cards, and the introduction of a FTP Server NLM. In addition,
NOV*IX 3.0 offers improved security and control over access to the
Internet, with features for improved management and administration. NOV*IX
3.0 products will be available in August 1995.

"Since 1989, NOV*IX has become the leading solution for managed
communications between NetWare and TCP/IP environments," said Peter
Simkin, chief technology officer for Firefox. "Today's announcement
continues to underscore our leadership role with new steps to
platform-independence, and new features such as increased security and the
FTP Server product extension."

Many leading schools and universities such as University of Oklahoma and
University of Washington and Fortune 1000 companies such Sony, Northrup,
and Boeing have standardized on NOV*IX as their communications solution to
TCP/IP. Last month, NOV*IX received the Editor's Choice award from PC
Magazine for Internet Gateways.

"We looked at what many other districts were doing when we first started to
offer Internet connectivity to our schools," said Jennifer Cutler,
director of Online Services for the Olathe School District, in Missouri.
"We weren't satisfied with anything we saw, until we tried NOV*IX. Now
it's easy for us to open the door on the things we want our students to
see -- rather than trying to shut the door on all the areas we want to
keep out."

NDS Compatibility

Firefox's compatibility with Novell's NetWare Directory Services (NDS)
simplifies NOV*IX management in NetWare 4.x networks, specifically User,
Group, and Printer objects. For sites with multiple locations, such as the
Olathe School District, this NOV*IX feature allows managers to configure
IP addressing in one step from a single location for all users throughout
the network.

WANODI Compliance

NOV*IX 3.0 now operates in conjunction with Novell's NetWare Multi-Protocol
Router Version 3.0 to enable customers to not only connect remote NetWare
LANs together, but also connect directly to the Internet. This
dramatically increases the range of WAN access options and eliminates the
need for routing hardware.

FTP Server NLM

With NOV*IX 3.0's FTP Server NLM, authorized users can transparently
transfer files to and from a NetWare server. The NLM architecture makes it
possible to provide this facility from a single platform, thereby
eliminating the need to offer FTP server connectivity through a separate
UNIX box.

Improved Security and Control of Internet Access

NOV*IX now provides an additional layer of administrative control over a
user's Internet access by including an HTTP Application Filter NLM to
filter URLs by path, filename, and file extension. Previous versions of
NOV*IX enabled administrators to control user's access to applications
(e.g.: all access to FTP, all access to Telnet), Domains, hosts, or
specific IP addresses. Now administrators can even control which elements
are accessible from allowed web pages by filtering URLs by path, filename
and file extension. For example, the administrator can restrict a certain
file from being loaded from the net such as executable files.

LAN WorkPlace 5

NOV*IX for WorkGroups Version 3.0 includes the newest LAN WorkPlace 5
applications and enhancements. These include the Netscape's Navigator
Internet browser and news reader Windows X-server, Windows LPD and LPR,
Windows SMTP/POP3 E-mail client, improved Terminal Emulator applications
and an integrated Windows Dialer for remote users. With NOV*IX,
administrators can benefit from NOV*IX management features like
server-based TCP/IP address sharing, and centralized installation not
available in the stand-alone version of LAN WorkPlace 5.

Finally, NOV*IX 3.0 offers improved management and administration through
new configuration and installation facilities in Windows and DOS. The new
configuration offers an easier-to-use graphical interface that makes it
easy to locate items that need to be configured on the LAN.
