Farallon Ships PC Card Networking Products for PowerBook Computers

ALAMEDA, Calif., August 21, 1995 -- Farallon Computing, Inc., today
announced a family of EtherWave and EtherMac PC Cards (PCMCIA) that will
enable quick and easy connectivity for Macintosh PowerBook computers to
any standard 10Base-T Ethernet or thinnet network. Farallon also announced
today its plans to provide a multi-function LAN/modem PowerBook PC Card
that will be available in December. The combination of Farallons current
mobile networking products and these new PC Cards give Farallon the most
comprehensive line of plug-and-play networking options for the PowerBook
environment.

Farallon's initial offering of PC Card networking products for the
Macintosh environment will include an EtherWave 10Base-T daisy-chainable
network adapter, an EtherMac 10Base-T adapter and an EtherMac
10Base-T/thinnet combination adapter. Like Farallon's award-winning PC
Cards for the PC notebook environment, the new products are based on 3Com
Corporation's Parallel Tasking chip set consistently rated the highest
performance Ethernet technology available in the market today.

"Mobile workers require easy, high-performance network connectivity
wherever they are," stated Alan Lefkof, president and CEO of Farallon.
"Farallon's extensive experience in PowerBook networking, from PhoneNET to
EtherWave Adapters, coupled with 3Coms high-performance Ethernet
technology has yielded a line of PowerBook solutions that users require to
be connected on the road or in the office."

"We have had a strong relationship with 3Com over the years, incorporating
their Parallel Tasking chip set into our PC EtherWave and Fast Ethernet
products," said Ken Haase, product manager at Farallon. "We are pleased to
now continue our technology partnership by extending our success with the
EtherWave PC Card to the PowerBook market."

The PC Cards are designed for the notebook user who wants an easy way to
hook into a standards-based network without having to hassle with
configuring his/her system. They enable users to fit the credit card-sized
adapter into PC Card-compatible PowerBook computers and with one-step
installation be up and running on a network in a matter of moments. The
new PC Card type II adapters implement Farallon drivers and are compatible
with all popular network operating systems and protocols. All the adapters
are hot-swappable, allowing mobile users to insert and remove the
networking cards at any time without turning off their computer. The
small, mobile design of each of Farallon's PC Cards will enable notebook
users to carry it with them to connect to any 10Base-T or thin Ethernet
network at any location.

NEW PC CARDS OFFER MOBILE SOLUTIONS

With the EtherWave PC Card, PowerBook users will have a networking solution
that they can easily plug into an existing 10Base-T network without
requiring a free port on the hub or requiring the costly effort of
installing extra wiring. The adapter provides a cost-effective means for
connecting portable users to a corporate network, offering full access to
information and networked tools such as file and print servers. Farallon's
patented daisy-chainable 10Base-T EtherWave technology allows the
PowerBook computers to connect to an existing network without pulling more
wire or disconnecting an existing networked computer.

Similarly, the EtherWave PC Card is also a useful solution for mobile
workgroups who want the performance of a full 10Mbps Ethernet connection,
without requiring a hub. For example, auditor teams can easily set up
"conference room" networks to share and exchange information with everyone
in the room. The EtherWave PC Card provides mobile users with flexibility
to create networks of any size, anywhere with or without a hub.

For those PowerBook users who do not require the extensive flexibility of
EtherWave, Farallon will offer two low-cost solutions: an EtherMac
PowerBook PC Card for 10Base-T and a combination EtherMac adapter for
10Base-T or thinnet. The PC Cards will enable a single user to connect
directly to a 10Base-T network through the included RJ-45 cable. By
eliminating the need for an external connector, the EtherMac PowerBook PC
Card offers users a standard-based, 10Base-T solution that is extremely
portable.

The combination thinnet and 10Base-T adapter is the perfect solution for
mobile users who want the option to connect to either network
configuration. The combination PC Card comes with the same 10Base-T cable
and an additional thinnet connector. The PC Card has an auto-sensing
feature which allows users to quickly and simply connect to a thinnet or
10Base-T network without having to worry about configuring the PowerBook
or card.

Farallon is the first vendor to announce its plans for a multi-function
LAN/modem PowerBook PC Card. The card will provide users with the ability
to access their Ethernet network, dial out to on-line services and the
Internet, and send and receive faxes. The LAN and modem functions can be
performed separately or simultaneously.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The EtherMac PowerBook PC Cards will be available this month, the EtherWave
PowerBook PC Card will be available in October, and the multi-function
LAN/modem PowerBook PC Card will be available later this year.
