Direct Model Helps Company Be Quick to Market with New Operating System
Company Introduces Windows 95 Customer Transition Program, Including
Worldwide Web "On-Line Transition" Page

AUSTIN, TEXAS, August 23, 1995 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL)
today further demonstrated the power of its direct business approach by
announcing that it will begin shipping systems with Microsoftr Windowsr 95
factory- installed on August 24th, timed to coincide with Microsoft's
landmark product launch. By shipping Windows 95 on the day it is
announced, Dell will become one of the first companies in the industry to
ship Windows 95 to customers.

In addition to factory installing Windows 95 in the U.S., Dell will begin
factory installing the English language version of the new operating
system in its Limerick, Ireland manufacturing facility for sale across
Europe and the Asia/Pacific region.

To assist customers in their transition to the new operating system, Dell
today also introduced the "On-line Transition Page" on its Worldwide Web
home page. This convenient on-line resource is designed to give customers
access to Windows 95 product, service and support information, helping
them prepare for their migration to the new operating system. The
information is available by accessing Dell's Worldwide Web home page at
http://www.dell.com.

Windows 95 is available on Dell's complete line of desktop and notebook
computers, including all Dell Dimension systems, Dell Latitude notebooks
and all Dell OptiPlex 486e, OptiPlex G and OptiPlex x500 systems. Windows
95 is included in the price of Dell desktop and notebook systems. The
company will also continue to support the other operating systems it
currently offers, such as Microsoft Windows NT.

"Being quick to market with relevant new technologies has been a Dell
hallmark and we are delighted to be able to offer such an important new
product to our customers this quickly," said Michael Dell, chairman and
CEO of Dell Computer Corp. "We have worked closely with Microsoft for more
than two years to prepare for this event. Windows 95 represents the most
significant operating system advancement during the last several years and
Dell is well-positioned to fully support it."

While some companies are indicating that they are just beginning to put
systems on dealers' shelves, Dell is already beginning to ship systems
directly to customers. The ability of the company to rapidly transition to
Windows 95 is further proof of the effectiveness of the company's direct
way of doing business, he noted.

"Dell has been a key industry leader in the transition to Windows 95 and
has shown outstanding execution in preparation for its arrival," said Bill
Gates, Microsoft's chairman and CEO. "Through it all, Dell has maintained
a continuous focus on the customer, as we've come to expect from them. We
value the long-standing relationship between our two companies and look
forward to continued successes in the future." Helping customers
transition

To further assist customers in their transition to Windows 95, Dell has
established a comprehensive Windows 95 Customer Transition Program. The
new program includes a series of flexible service and support capabilities
and on-line facilities. Highlights of the program include:

- A dedicated team of Windows 95 troubleshooters and "second-level" experts
-- to provide first-line and second- level technical support for systems
with Windows 95 installed. The entire team has been trained by Microsoft
to provide them with the skills and knowledge required to handle even the
most complex technical issues.

- 30-days of toll-free installation and setup support -- designed to assist
customers as they get their Dell system up and running with
factory-installed Windows 95.

- Lifetime toll-free hardware technical support -- for Windows 95-based
Dell systems, a continuation of Dell's award-winning service and support
program.

- 30 days of advanced networking support -- designed to help customers
transition to the new operating system in a networked environment.

- "Migration Support" -- For $299, information systems (I/S) professionals
receive tools and guidance to enable them to transition entire groups of
PC users to Windows 95.

- Affordable, flexible "usage" contracts -- for those customers who are
looking for technical support in how to use Windows 95 day-to-day. The
contracts are customizable to the level of support a customer would like.
Customers can choose support that is $29 per call or they can choose
unlimited calls at $99 for 90 days or $299 for an entire year.

- The Worldwide Web "On-Line Transition" Page -- an Internet resource
providing customers with instant access to sales, service and support
options, as well as Windows 95 "tips" provided by Dell, Microsoft and
Intel Corp.

The work between Dell and Microsoft, such as system development work and
preparation in Dell's manufacturing facilities, has enabled Dell to be
well-positioned to move rapidly from "final code" to finished product. In
addition, as indicated by its comprehensive Windows 95 Customer Transition
Program, Dell has extensively trained its technical support and customer
service representatives to help provide customers with a smooth and rapid
transition to the new operating system.

Dell has also been the sole hardware sponsor of several important events
leading up to the arrival of Windows 95, including Developers' Day, a
series of events for software providers; TRAINCAST, a program to train the
industry's technical support experts; and Windows 95 Preview Program,
under which Dell was able to provide early versions of Windows 95
installed on Dell PCs to enable customers to evaluate the new operating
system before its arrival.

Dell Computer Corporation is the world's leading direct manufacturer of
personal computers and one of the largest PC manufacturers in the world,
based on annual revenues of nearly $3.5 billion. Dell designs and
customizes products and services to end-user requirements and offers an
