PATHWORKS NETWORKING SOFTWARE EMBRACES WINDOWS 95

Users To Benefit From Seamless, Enterprise-Wide Integration...

MAYNARD, Mass. -- August 14, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced the expansion of its PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows networking
software to include support for Windows 95. With the new component of the
PATHWORKS client software, Windows 95 users will have seamless,
enterprise-wide integration of their PCs into their existing PATHWORKS
environment, and management capabilities across multivendor
network-operating-systems.

Developed as a completely 'protected mode' implementation, freeing
conventional memory on the desktop for other applications, the Windows 95
component of the PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows client software provides a
new implementation of the DECnet transport, as well as LAT, CTERM, and
Telnet transport protocols. This allows access to server and network
resources over Ethernet, Token Ring, and FDDI networks. It also offers a
VT320 terminal emulator for host-based communications and the latest
version of the Spyglass Mosaic browser for Internet access.

The new PATHWORKS component utilizes the Windows 95 user interface,
simplifying installation and management. Using the step-by-step Wizard
paradigm, loading the PATHWORKS Windows 95 component is fast and easy,
with automatic configuration of the users' PC to run PATHWORKS. The System
Monitor feature of Windows 95 reveals DECnet and LAT activity, and the
Network Neighborhood function shows PATHWORKS server status. In addition,
PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows on-line documentation has been enhanced and
converted to the Windows 95 user interface.

Available on August 24, the Windows 95 component of the PATHWORKS client
software requires a minimum 25Mhz Intel 80386DX system with 8MB RAM and
10MB of hard disk space available. A Windows 95-supported network adapter
and driver is required.

Customers will immediately benefit from the expansion of PATHWORKS to
embrace Windows 95. "I need to integrate Windows 95 PCs into our
networking environment," said Ellis Merlin, manager of Information Systems
at Ciba-Geigy's Agricultural Biotechnology Research Unit. "PATHWORKS lets
me do that easily."

Existing PATHWORKS V5.1 users already are licensed to use the Windows 95
component. Customers with Media and Documentation Distribution Service
(MDDS) contracts automatically will receive the PATHWORKS client software
for Windows 95 at no charge. Customers with PATHWORKS V5.1 client licenses
who do not have the MDDS service are licensed to use the Windows 95
component and can order the installation kit for $20. Customers without
PATHWORKS currently installed can purchase a PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows
CCS license for $205 which includes the Windows 95 component and provides
unlimited access to PATHWORKS servers. Client software and server access
may also be ordered by calling 1-800-DIGITAL.

PATHWORKS for DOS and Windows with support for Windows 95 is a member of
Digital's PATHWORKS family of networking and network integration solutions
