COMPUTER PERIPHERALS, INC. ANNOUNCES VIVA 28.8, 14.4 SPEAKERPHONE MODEMS
FOR WINDOWS-95

Irvine, CA, August 9, 1995 -- Computer Peripherals, Inc. (CPI), a leading
modem manufacturer, today announced its ViVa 28.8 and 14.4 Speakerphone
Modems for Windows 95 systems. The modems provide full duplex speakerphone
communications, V.34 (28.8 kilobits per second) or V.32 (14.4 kbps) data
communications, Class 1/2 send and receive fax communications, and Radish
VoiceView capability to switch back and forth between voice and data
communications modes on the same call, all on a single Plug & Play board.

"Windows-95 opens the door for wide use of integrated telephony functions
using easy-to-install and easy-to-use hardware," said Mike Zachan,
president of CPI. "These modems offer state-of-the art speakerphone
technology, plus high-performance data and fax communications, to meet the
demands of users for whom simple, inexpensive, and high quality
communications are of the utmost importance. The personal computer is no
longer just a device for isolated computing tasks -- it is a device for
desktop communications as well."

Built around the Rockwell RCV288ACi and RCV144 ACi chipsets, the
speakerphone modems allow hands-free telephone communications in full
duplex -- both ends of the connection can speak and hear at the same time.
The annoyances of half-duplex conversations -- waiting to speak until the
other party is through speaking, or missing parts of the other party's
communications -- are gone. In addition, the modems feature an antihowling
scheme with echo and line noise cancellation and automatic gain control on
the microphone. This enables an omnidirectional microphone to be placed
anywhere in the room: voices will be picked up from any direction,
providing unprecedented speakerphone performance.

"The combination of superb speakerphone functionality and VoiceView makes
these moderns an important step in increased communications productivity,"
said Zachan. "Not only can multiple parties participate in telephone
communications, but those communications can now be multifunctional as
well -- transmitting not only voice but data and fax information in a
single session."

Conventional voice telephony functions can also be accomplished using the
ViVa modems. Bundled software allows the modems to turn the systems in
which they are installed into high-powered answering machines, with
multiple voice, fax, and data "mailboxes," customized calling and
answering functions, faxback and fax-on-demand, automatic paging, and
more.

The modems' chipsets also transfer data at speeds up to 28.8kbps or
14.4kbps, and send and receive faxes at speeds up to 14.4kbps. For data
transmission, the modems can achieve optimum throughput of up to 115.2kbps
due to their V.42 data compression and their automatic speed negotiation
feature that selects the most efficient combination of data transmission
and error correction. Also supported are V.42bis, V.32, V.32bis, V.23,
V.22, V.22bis, V.21, Bell 212A and 103, and "AT" command set standards. In
the fax mode, both modems support CCITT T.30 Group 3 standards and
EIA/TIA-578 Class I and Class 2 fax "AT" command set standards.

To ensure error-free data transfer under adverse telephone line conditions,
the modems also incorporate MNP 2-4 error correction, plus MNP 5 data
compression and MNP 10 for cellular connections.

The ViVa speakerphone modems are fully Plug & Play compatible. This means
they can be installed in Plug & Play systems, or in computers using Plug &
Play operating systems (such as Windows-95 or OS/2 Warp) and be
automatically recognized and configured, with no user intervention
required. The ViVa speakerphone modems are among the first 28.8 modems
with this capability.

The modems will initially be available to OEM, VAR, and system integrator
customers, and will begin shipping in late August. Volume pricing for the
28.8 speakerphone modem begins at under $140, while pricing for the 14.4
version begins under $90. Both versions are slated for introduction into
retail channels in late Q3, and will be distributed through CPI's normal
retail channels. The new modems will be backed by a two-year limited
warranty. CPI ViVa modems have established a reputation for outstanding
price/performance ratios, ease of installation, and documentation.

Part of the ACC Technology Group, CPI is a leading manufacturer of modems
for the PC and compatible markets. Since its founding in 1982, the company
has earned a reputation as a price/performance leader. CPI's headquarters
are at 7 Whatney, Irvine, CA, 92718, (714) 454-2441.
