COMPUTER PERIPHERALS, INC. ANNOUNCES NEW VIVA 14.4 DATA/FAX/VOICE MODEM FOR
WINDOWS-95

Irvine, CA, August 1, 1995 -- Computer Peripherals, Inc. (CPI), a leading
modem manufacturer, today became one of the first to announce a Plug &
Play data/fax/voice modem. The ViVa 14.4 Data/Fax/Voice Modem provides
V.32 (14.4 kbps) data communications, Class 1 send and receive fax
communications, and voice (answering machine) communications all on a
single Plug & Play board.

"Windows-95 users will expect powerful, easy-to-install and easy-to-use
peripherals for their systems. This modem offers an unbeatable combination
of performance and low price," said Mike Zachan, president of CPI. "The
user can implement a professional-sounding voice mail system and have
speedy data and fax communications at a price point that was unthinkable
not long ago."

The ViVa 14.4 Data/Fax/Voice modem is fully Plug & Play compatible. This
means it can be installed in Plug & Play systems, or in computers using
Plug & Play operating systems (such as Windows-95 or OS/2 Warp) and be
automatically recognized and configured, with no user intervention
required. It is among the first data/fax/voice modems with this
capability.

Built around the Rockwell RCVATF chipset, the modem can provide
high-powered answering machine capability on a personal computer. It
offers sophisticated voice message handling capability, including multiple
voice, fax, and data "mailboxes," automatic paging functions, and fax
tools such as faxback and fax-on-demand.

The modem can transfer data at speeds up to 14.4kpbs, and send and receive
faxes at speeds up to 14.4kpbs. For data transmission, the modem can
achieve optimum throughput of up to 57.6kbps due to V.42bis data
compression and its automatic speed negotiation feature that selects the
most efficient combination of data transmission and error correction. Also
supported are V.32, V.32bis, V.23, V.22, V.22bis, V.21, Bell 212A and 103,
and "AT" command set standards. In the fax mode, the modem supports CCITT
T.30 Group 3 standards and EIA/TIA-578 Class I fax "AT" command set
standards.

To ensure error-free data transfer under adverse telephone line conditions,
the modem also incorporates MNP 2-4 error correction, plus MNP S data
compression and MNP 10 for cellular connections.

The ViVa 14.4 Data/Fax/Voice modem will initially be available to OEM, VAR,
and system integrator customers, and will begin shipping in late August.
Volume pricing will be under $60. It is slated for introduction into
retail channels in late Q3, and will be distributed through CPI's normal
retail channels. The ViVa 14.4 Data/Fax/Voice modem will be backed by a
two-year limited warranty. CPI ViVa modems have established a reputation
for outstanding price/performance ratios, ease of installation, and
documentation.

Part of the ACC Technology Group, CPI is a leading manufacturer of modems
for the PC and compatible markets. Since its founding in 1982, the company
has earned a reputation as a price/performance leader. CPI's headquarters
are at 7 Whatney, Irvine, CA, 92718, (714) 454-2441.
