CE Software Outlines Future of QuickMail, The Standard in MacOS Messaging

New Upgrade Subscription Plan Guarantees Customers Free Upgrades Through
'96

West Des Moines, Iowa, August 7, 1995 - CE Software today rolled out its
product plans for the next three versions of QuickMail. In conjunction
with the roll-out, CE Software introduced a subscription plan whereby
current customers pay a one time fee of $6.25 per user and receive all
three upgrades.

"Because our customers depend heavily on QuickMail to conduct business
everyday, it is absolutely critical for them to know what direction CE
Software is taking the product," said Ford Goodman, president and CEO of
CE Software. "To best meet our customers' needs, and better assist them in
planing their business, we developed the QuickMail Product Road Map. We
realize it is risky for a vendor to outline specific feature sets and
timelines for future releases, however this is what our customers asked
for - so we delivered."

QuickMail 3.5 To Ship In August '95

The first QuickMail upgrade will come in August when CE Software ships
version 3.5. QuickMail 3.5 will include a gateway connecting QuickMail to
America Online, the number one on-line service. QuickMail 3.5 users will
also receive a 10-user Internet Sampler Pak in every box. This
nonstackable UNIX-to-UNIX Copy Protocol (UUCP) InterCall Internet gateway
will allow up to ten QuickMail users to test drive the Information Highway
before connecting their entire site.

In version 3.5 CE Software has added a Server-based MailManager, off
loading mail management activities including reply, forward, file and
delete to the server. The Server-based MailManager will enable users to
have their mail handled automatically even when they shut-down their
computers or take them off-line. In this release drag and drop
functionality has been added to QuickMail 3.5 allowing users to print,
file, save and delete messages using this intuitive technology. QuickMail
3.5 also fully supports stylized text enabling users to modify the font
size, style, and color attributes of text within any QuickMail message.
Plus QuickConference, an on-screen conferencing tool, will allow users to
keep an active line of communication on their desktop all day. As a
stand-alone messaging application, QuickConference enables users to
conveniently hold "on-line" chats with groups or individuals across the
network.

With the release of version 3.5, CE Software will also strengthen
QuickMail's security, adding a new password module delivering
administrators the ability to control password lengths, and enable them to
establish mandatory alphanumeric passwords, and set password-aging
criteria. Moreover, QuickMail 3.5's enhanced Mail Authentication Tool
(MAT) will provide administrators greater control over server space. Now
QuickMail administrators will have the ability to delete all mail,
previously read mail, or mail that is older than a specified date thus
freeing up additional server space when necessary.

Delivery of Version 3.7 Slated For December '95

In version 3.7, shipping in December '95, CE Software will deliver seamless
remote communications to both Macintosh and Windows users. QuickMail 3.7
will be complemented by an all new Telcom Server. This PowerPC native
application will provide enhanced remote access, with support for multiple
modem connections and simultaneous dial-in connections. TCP/IP access
through MacTCP will also be supported. To maximize network band-width,
automatic data compression for attached files and enclosures for both
Macintosh and Windows clients will also be added. With data compression,
users will be able to attach and compress an unlimited number of files and
folders to their QuickMail messages. With the On-Line/Off-Line
functionality offered in version 3.7, Mobile users will be able to use the
same client software while on the road or in the office.

CE Software will incorporate additional modem initialization strings in
order to support a wider range of modem connections. In this release,
users will receive state-of-the-art data communication protocols to
provide error-correcting, and high-speed data transfer for remote
connections.

QuickMail 4.0 By Spring '96

CE Software will round out its QuickMail product enhancements with version
4.0, shipping in April of '96. In this version the company will deliver
administrators a host of mail management and measurement tools that allow
administrators to monitor and measure the efficiency of their QuickMail
networks. Version 4.0 will support multiple public folders enabling users
to create and participate in topical discussion groups. And enhanced QM
Forms technology will support more of today's standard graphic formats and
colors. Version 4.0 will also bring TCP/IP support to the Windows client
eliminating the need for a Windows-based file server, enabling Windows
users to connect directly to the Macintosh server.

CE Software Offers Innovative Upgrade Subscription Plans

In order to simplify the upgrade process for administrators and purchasing
departments, CE Software has introduced the QuickMail Upgrade Subscription
Plan. Similar to a magazine subscription, for a limited time (until August
30, 1995) QuickMail customers make a single payment and receive upgrades
free for the remainder of the year. QuickMail 3.0 customers who decide to
purchase an Upgrade Subscription Plan pay just $6.25 per user and receive
versions 3.5, 3.7, and 4.0. Customers currently using version 2.6 or below
may purchase an Upgrade Subscription for $14.25 per user, and receive
versions 3.0, 3.5, 3.7, and 4.0. Over the course of the coming year CE
Software will ship version 3.5 in August '95, version 3.7 in December '95
and version 4.0 in April '96.

The Upgrade Subscription Plan is available to any customer of any size, and
purchases are made on a serial number by serial number basis. The Upgrade
Subscription Plan also applies to any other upgrades offered from the
initial subscription date, including any minor updates between releases.
After August 30 the Upgrade Subscription Plan will increase to $9.25 per
user for customers at version 3.0, and $19.25 for customers at version 2.6
or below.

For only $3 per user, current QuickMail 3.0 customers can upgrade to
version 3.5, plus receive version 3.7 at no additional cost. Customers at
versions 2.6 or below may upgrade to version 3.5 for $13 per user, and
receive version 3.7 for free. Customers wishing to take advantage of this
offer must respond before September 15.

"Many of our QuickMail sites requested a simple and cost effective means to
gain access to upcoming releases," said Goodman. "These customers are
excited, and view the Upgrade Subscription program as a way to eliminate
their upgrade budgeting worries, and by-pass the multiple purchase order
approval processes."
