CE Software Announces QuickMail 3.5

Delivers Free America Online Gateway, Internet Sampler and More in the Box

West Des Moines, Iowa, August 7, 1995 - CE Software today announced
QuickMail 3.5 -bringing a host of new features to its number one selling
electronic mail solution for Macintosh and PC systems. QuickMail 3.5,
already the industry's most mature and reliable Local Area Network
(LAN)-based E-mail system, now includes an America Online gateway,
Internet connectivity, drag and drop capabilities and more.

"QuickMail has always delivered everything users need to fully leverage
their E-mail right out of the box," said Ford Goodman, president and CEO
of CE Software. "With this introduction, we are once again setting a new
standard for the industry with gateways to AOL and the Internet, rich text
capabilities, advanced rules functionality and more."

Delivering America Online Gateway In Every Box

As part of a strategy to serve as a universal mailbox, the latest version
of QuickMail now includes an America Online gateway. With this gateway,
QuickMail users have the ability to send and receive messages via America
Online directly from the QuickMail interface. The gateway allows users to
transfer standard messages and file enclosures over this leading on-line
service. Providing gateways to CompuServe, AppleLink, MCI Mail,
SprintMail, GEnie, and now AOL and the Internet, QuickMail can truly serve
as a universal mailbox.

Internet Access Extends Mail Capabilities

With every QuickMail purchase or upgrade to version 3.5, users will receive
a 10 user Internet Sampler Pak. This nonstackable InterCall gateway fully
supports up to ten QuickMail users. It provides seamless access to the
Internet via a dial-up UNIX-to-UNIX Copy Protocol (UUCP) connection and
supports such Internet features as:

* Internet mailing list subscriptions
* Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) compliance
* Recognition of non-MIME character sets and content encodings
* Automatic character set detection and content encoding when
  replying to mail
* Integrated reading and posting of Usenet NetNews
* Unbatching, decompression and forwarding of articles from
  Usenet NetNews
* Binary, AppleSingle, AppleDouble, BinHex and uuencode enclosure
  formats

Users can purchase an unlimited user version of the InterCall gateway for
$495. "By including a 10-user pak of the InterCall gateway in every
QuickMail box, we can give organizations the opportunity to essentially
"test drive" the Internet before investing in connections for their whole
organization," said Goodman.

Delivering Server-Based Mail Management Capabilities

CE Software was the first E-mail vendor to market with mail rules
capabilities for Macintosh users with the release last year of its
client-based rules in version 3.0. Driven by customer demand, CE Software
has now added a Server-based MailManager, this PowerPC native application
off loads mail management activities to the server. Users establish
server-based rules that can automatically reply, forward, and delete
messages without manual intervention. With this new feature users can shut
down or take machines on the road while the server-based MailManager
automatically deals with their mail. By providing users with both client
and server-based rules, QuickMail 3.5 delivers E-mail users the widest
variety of automated mail-management options available.

New Release To Support Drag And Drop Functionality

CE Software has also added Drag and Drop functionality in both the
Macintosh and Windows QuickMail clients. Users can now file messages into
any mail folder and print, save, delete messages simply by dropping them
on QuickMail's graphical button-bar interface. To attach or remove files
from a message, users can also drag documents directly between a QuickMail
message and the desktop. Drag and drop text is also fully supported
between QuickMail 3.5 and Windows applications and those Macintosh
applications that support standard MacOS Drag and Drop implementations.

Stylized Text For Macintosh And Windows Users

This version of QuickMail also boasts stylized text capabilities allowing
users to personalize any QuickMail message by varying font, color, size
and style attributes. Stylized text flows seamlessly between Macintosh and
Windows platforms. "As more and more companies use E-mail as their main
communication tool, it is imperative that users be able to customize and
personalize their messages," explained Goodman.

Real Time Conferencing Without Interruption

QuickMail 3.5 also includes modifications to QuickConference, a "real time"
conferencing utility available in the box since QuickMail's debut.
QuickConference has been redesigned as a stand-alone messaging application
that Macintosh users can keep active all day as a background application
without interruptions. With QuickConference users always have an active
line of communication on their desktop throughout the day. Similar to
"on-line" chats, QuickConference enables users to conveniently hold
individual and group discussions on screen.

New Release Provides QM Administrators With Powerful Server Tools

With this release, CE Software has also strengthened QuickMail's security.
A new password module allows administrators to establish minimum password
lengths, mandatory alphanumeric passwords, even a password-aging
criteria.

QuickMail 3.5's enhanced Mail Authentication Tool (MAT) provides
administrators with greater control over server space availability. Now
QuickMail administrators have the ability to delete all mail, previously
read mail or mail that is older than a specified date. MAT also allows
administrators to delete client mail log entries older than a specific
date. These enhancements to MAT provide administrators with greater
control over server space availability.

In QuickMail 3.5, CE Software has added a new folder (the CE Software
folder) that removes the dependency on the Preferences folder within the
System. This change decreases the size of the user's System folder and
enables them to alias QuickMail folders to access filed mail via AppleTalk
Remote Access (ARA).

Future Releases

QuickMail 3.5 represents the first release in a series of many on the
QuickMail Product Road Map. Within the next twelve months CE Software will
ship two more versions of QuickMail: version 3.7 in December '95 and
version 4.0 in April of '96.

"CE Software must continue to exceed the expectations of the Macintosh
E-mail user," said Goodman. "That's why we are excited about sharing our
product plans with our users and the industry. We feel strongly that both
our feature enhancement path and subscription-based upgrade strategy serve
our customers well."
