NEW CA-CLIPPER 5.3 PROVIDES VISUAL DEVELOPMENT FOR DOS APPLICATIONS

ISLANDIA, N.Y., August 22, 1995--Computer Associates has begun shipping
CA-Clipper 5.3, the award-winning Xbase application development system
that now includes a Windows-based workbench for visual development of DOS
applications.

With features such as visual painters, code generators, a file-based
repository, an integrated debugger, and an automatic make facility, the
new CA-Clipper workbench provides a user- friendly, productive desktop to
develop DOS applications.

"CA-Clipper programmers can now get the benefit of Windows development
while still servicing the huge installed base of DOS applications,"said
Marc Sokol, CA vice president of product strategy. "CA-Clipper 5.3 also
serves as a stepping stone in the move toward Windows development using
CA-Visual Objects."

Developers can work on CA-Clipper applications and libraries in a GUI
environment, while keeping the sources in external PRG files. CA-Clipper
5.3 provides the ability to browse the sources and edit them within the
workbench, while continuing to let developers use their favorite DOS or
Windows editor.

List priced at $199, CA-Clipper 5.3 is available to registered CA-Clipper
developers for $99.

ADDITIONAL CA-CLIPPER 5.3 FEATURES

Graphics Mode Support--The incorporation of the VGA version of Light Lib
Graphics from DFL Software provides graphics mode support, allowing DOS
applications to have the look and feel of a GUI program. Users can display
bitmaps, fonts and elegant GUI objects including push buttons, scroll bars
and listboxes.

New GUI Objects--Reusable menu and user-interface objects include
checkboxes, listboxes, radio buttons, push buttons, scroll bars, menu
items and menu bars.

Enhanced CDX RDD--LodeStone's Comix RDD and ClipMore query optimizer
improves performance and ensures stable and robust access to FoxPro
indices. Ganahl's Flexfile provides enhanced memo and BLOB support.

Real-Mode Linker Support--Blinker has been integrated into CA-Clipper 5.3
as its real-mode linker, allowing users to create real-mode CA-Clipper
applications faster than ever.

Mouse Support--DOS applications created with CA-Clipper 5.3 will fully
support mouse control without requiring third-party add-ons.

retail price is $345; a $55 rebate is available to CA-Clipper clients.
