BORLAND PREVIEWS PARADOX FOR WINDOWS 95

DATABASE PROVIDES "SMOOTH SAILING" TO NEW OPERATING SYSTEM FOR USERS AND
DEVELOPERS

SEATTLE -- August 21, 1995 -Borland International Inc. this week begins to
publicly preview its Paradox relational database for Microsoft's new
Windows 95 operating system. The demonstrations will take place at the PC
Database Summit tradeshow and Microsoft's Windows 95 product launch being
held here. In addition, Borland announced a new Paradox promotion as part
of its "Smooth Sailing to Windows 95" campaign to help developers and
their customers manage the transition from Windows 3.1 to the new
operating system.

Effective August 24, purchasers of the current Paradox 5.0 product will
receive a $50 discount on their upgrade to Paradox for Windows 95 when it
becomes available.

"Paradox is an excellent example of Borland's product mission to provide
our customers with the industry's smoothest transition to Windows 95,"
said Richard Gorman, Borland's vice president of products. "The new
Paradox will support all existing Paradox 5.0 for Windows applications and
data, as well as be able to co-exist and share data with Windows 3.x
applications on the same network server. This allows organizations to
migrate smoothly to Windows 95 at their own pace -- extending their
investment by incrementally migrating their users while building new
Windows 95 applications."

Paradox for Windows 95, scheduled to ship by the end of the year, breaks
new ground in end user ease-of-use with an array of new Experts and
usability enhancements. The new database will fully support the new user
interface and added functionality of Windows 95, such as long file names,
tool tips, tabbed dialogs, and contextsensitive right-click menus.
Additionally, it offers users unmatched integration with their office
suites and other popular business applications. Paradox for Windows 95
will also be included in the Professional version of Novell's
PerfectOffice for Windows 95.

Paradox for Windows 95 also includes many new visual productivity tools for
the power user and professional application developer. With support for
drag-and-drop OLE custom controls (OCXs) and OLE 2.0 Controller and Server
Automation, Paradox for Windows 95 will allow developers to quickly and
easily create sophisticated database applications. As a Windows 95 logo
compatible product, Paradox for Windows 95 will take full advantage of the
32-bit architecture and high performance of both Windows 95 and Windows
NT, while maintaining full compatibility with the Windows 3.1 version of
Paradox.

"We're excited about the upcoming version of Paradox for Windows 95," said
Kevin Smith of Softbite International, an application development
consulting firm based in Elmhurst, Illinois. "Many of my clients are
interested in having database applications run under Windows 95, and we're
excited about building new applications. The new user interface changes in
Windows 95 provide an excellent opportunity for Paradox for Windows to
improve its feature set and usability in the coming version.
