AUTODESK ENTERS VIEWER MARKET

Software Meets Customer Need for Speed and Accuracy at Aggressive Low
Price

San Rafael, CA., -- August 21, 1995 -- Autodesk today expanded its data
management product line with Autodesk View, its new Microsoft Windows
based PC software that lets Autodesk customers quickly and easily review
and work with AutoCAD files, raster files and non-graphic business
application files. Autodesk View users do not need to have AutoCAD or
other application software installed on their PC.

With an aggressive introductory promotional price of $199, Autodesk View
responds to customer requests for an inexpensive, fast and accurate
viewer. Using Autodesk View, customers can conveniently compare, mark up
("redline"), plot and print AutoCAD drawings and scanned images, even if
they don't have an AutoCAD system. Autodesk View facilitates the safe
distribution of AutoCAD files, scanned raster images and related documents
to all staff who need to see and comment on them -- without endangering
the integrity of the original document. In addition to CAD drawings,
Autodesk View users can access and print both graphic and non-graphic data
files stored in more than 150 different formats, including all popular
Windows and DOS-based word processors, spreadsheets and database formats.

"With Autodesk View, we expect to quickly establish Autodesk as the leader
in the viewer market while significantly expanding the range of data
management solutions available to our customers, " said James D'Arezzo,
vice president of the company's Data Management Market Group. "Autodesk
View delivers the high level of quality and accuracy that our customers
have come to expect from the CAD industry leader -- at a very attractive
price."

Autodesk View is intended to be used by design project teams that use CAD
software and by those people they work with, regardless of their level of
technical expertise. It can save customers time and money by eliminating
the need for special training and by functioning with inexpensive
hardware. Autodesk View also lets users electronically distribute
drawings, greatly reducing the need for expensive mylar reproductions.

A key part of Autodesk's Data Management Market Group strategy, Autodesk
View adds a major component to the company's line of data access and
document management software. It can be used with all of the company's
data management products, in addition to AutoCAD. Autodesk View is fully
compatible with AutoCAD DWG, DXF, DXB, SLD and BAK files, and
automatically recognizes files created in AutoCAD Release 9 through
Release 13.

Autodesk View is both a separate product and a technology embedded in other
Autodesk products. Autodesk View technology is used in Autodesk Data
Publishing CD ROM libraries which catalog pre-manufactured parts for
designers. Autodesk WorkCente, the company's sophisticated document
management system for design teams also contains Autodesk View. In
addition, the technology will be available for licensing to other
application developers.

System requirements are a personal computer with Intel 386, 486,
Pentium(R)-based PC or 100% compatible; MS-DOS 3.31 or higher; Windows
3.1; minimum 4 megabytes RAM; 12 MB of available hard-disk space; and
Windows-supported printers and plotters. A math co-processor is
recommended, but not required.

Autodesk View will be available in September at a special introductory
price of $199, effective through October 31, 1995. After October 31, the
price will be $295.
