Attachmate Demonstrates Ultimate Connectivity Solution for Windows 95
EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0

"EXTRA! Personal Client To Provide Large Enterprises Risk-Free Transition
to New Windows Operating Systems."

REDMOND, Wash.(August 24, 1995) -- Attachmate Corporation, the world's
sixth largest personal computer software company and the number one
provider of enterprise-wide connectivity software, today demonstrated at
the Windows 95 Launch Event its new EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0, an
integrated host-aware client. EXTRA! Personal Client addresses the
critical connectivity needs of large enterprises, incorporating
Attachmate's award-winning technology, and dramatically extending the
connectivity capabilities of Windows 95 to virtually all host systems and
the Internet. The new product is even CDPD wireless-enabled right out of
the box talk about "Where do you want to go today"!

"Our customers are eager to reap the benefits of Windows 95, and they want
to see new, innovative approaches to accessing global information," said
Jim Lindner, Attachmate's President and CEO. "Users will immediately see
the difference when using EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0 and Windows 95. Our
beta users tell us that EXTRA! Personal Client will be a catalyst within
their organizations in moving host and Internet users to the Windows 95
platform very rapidly."

EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0 is the most robust and complete connectivity
solution for the new Windows 95 environment. The product sports many new
features specifically designed to increase user productivity in the new
environment and offers seamless integration with a variety of public and
private host data sources, including the Internet. EXTRA! Personal Client
creates a new performance, integration, and ease-of-use benchmark that
yields unprecedented value for customers. Attachmate is also including
their suite of 16-bit Windows applications alongside the new 32-bit
product.

"We are using EXTRA! Personal Client for the Windows platform today and are
impressed with the breadth of components they deliver in one package,"
said Tina White, Sr. Distributed Systems Analyst, of South Carolina
Electric & Gas. "The product allows us to reduce our vendor licenses for
host access, TCP/IP and Internet needs down to one standard product at a
fraction of the cost. If they can bring this same strategy to the Windows
95 platform, they will have a real winner on their hands."

EXTRA! Personal Client has been specifically designed to leverage the
Windows 95 operating system in the following ways:

Document-Centric - End users tailor EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0's host
session settings and then save them as documents, much like you would when
writing a report in a Windows word processor. This next-generation product
turns mission critical host systems into point-and-click Windows 95
applications.

Books and Pages - Attachmate refers to each of these session documents as
"books." The books can be placed on the Windows 95 desktop or on the Start
menu for easy access. An unlimited number of books can be saved with their
own unique settings including connection type, colors, toolbars, and even
bookmarks, to name just a few. Connecting to and working with far-flung
enterprise systems is now as simple as opening a book! The host screens
which compose the book are the "pages." Some of the pages are used quite
often, while others are used infrequently or simply to get from one place
to another. The often-used pages can be "bookmarked" for quick access,
removing the burden of remembering host system navigation from the
end-user. Security remains intact while the cryptic command list beside
many host-connected PCs can be thrown in the recycle bin.

Bookmarks - EXTRA! Personal Client brings bookmark-style World Wide Web
navigation to the host systems world by integrating a 32-bit navigation
engine into the architecture of the product. A user can simply point to an
application or location and the system will determine the quickest route
and automatically take the user there. Far beyond the capabilities of a
macro recorder, the system can at all times recognize where it is,
navigate to where it is asked to go, and activate events or trigger
external programs upon arrival through the use of "page events."

Page Events - Every page in the book can have attributes and events
dynamically linked to it by assigning "page events." For example, a user
can click on a book on their Windows 95 desktop and then click on a
bookmark that takes them to their inventory control page on the AS/400.
Upon reaching that page, page events are triggered which turn the page
background blue, activate the "inventory control"-named toolbar, and
launch a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet automatically.

OLE 2.0 - OLE 2.0 automation technology is the foundation for bookmarks,
page events, and the other advanced user interface elements built into
EXTRA! Personal Client. As users move through applications, their
surroundings adapt to their environment automatically! OLE 2.0 linking
technology allows users to drag and drop host data into Windows
applications that support OLE 2.0 like Microsoft Office, Lotus SmartSuite,
and WordPerfect Office. End users can easily empower their Windows 95
applications with public or private enterprise information with no
programming required.

Multi-Threading - Multi-threading increases the overall throughput and
performance of EXTRA! Personal Client and allows advanced subsystems (like
bookmarks and page events) to execute simultaneously, automating routine
tasks for users. And because EXTRA! Personal Client is also multi-host
from the ground up, it offers all its unique capabilities to IBM and
IBM-compatible mainframes, IBM AS/400s, HP and Digital hosts, a variety of
UNIX servers, UNISYS mainframes (optional), and the Internet. EXTRA!
Personal Client delivers global information on Windows NT workstations as
well.

Other Windows 95 Enhancements - EXTRA! Personal Client employs long
filenames, UNC (universal naming convention), compound files, and property
pages throughout, ensuring a consistent and productive user experience.
"EXTRA! Personal Client has been designed to leverage the 32bit
architecture of Windows 95," said Carl Peede, Vice President, Windows
Product Group for Attachmate. "Enterprise connectivity has never been
easier. From session wizards to its OLE 2.0 capabilities, EXTRA! Personal
Client 6.0 stands alone as the ultimate host-aware client, and yields an
unprecedented value proposition for our customers."

EXTRA! Personal Client also extends Microsoft's Windows 95 capabilities by
surrounding it with award-winning applications, utilities and tools.
EXTRA! Personal Client is also the perfect client to complement
Microsoft's Back Office family.

NetWizard & Microsoft's SMS - EXTRA! Personal Client also includes
Attachmate's award-winning software deployment and management product,
NetWizard. NetWizard can work alone or in conjunction with Microsoft's
Systems Management Server (SMS) to provide full scripting and granular
distribution and management capabilities. With NetWizard, EXTRA! Personal
Client is the first integrated solution that combines universal
connectivity and distributed software management.

As the leading provider of enterprise solutions, Attachmate recognizes that
distributed software solutions must be manageable in order to be
effective. By including the NetWizard product with EXTRA! Personal Client
6.0, Attachmate has established a new realm of enterprise operating
efficiency, seamlessly managing connectivity and the software on that
enterprise.

Attachmate TCP/IP Applications & Microsoft's TCP Stack- While Microsoft has
included a TCP/IP stack, EXTRA! Personal Client has rounded out the
robustness of Windows 95 with over a dozen popular TCP/IP applications,
including the latest version of the Netscape Navigator Web browser with
security features for electronic commerce. Internet e-mail is handled
through the Pronto/IP E-mail reader, completing the 'must have' set of
Internet access tools.

Enterprise Database Access - DBQuery, included in EXTRA! Personal Client
6.0, provides high performance, point-and-click direct database access to
enterprise DBMSs including DB2, DB2/400, and any DRDA-compatible data
source. The query information can be easily placed into any number of
popular Windows applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Remote LAN Node - The new Windows 95 RLN client component of Remote LAN
Node is embedded in EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0. RLN extends the reach and
maximizes the performance of all host and LAN-based information and
applications for remote users. RLN provides remote users with secure,
reliable, transparent access to Ethernet and token ring LANs over whatever
medium they choose -- including modems, cellular, ISDN, X.25 and switched
56Kbps. The new RLN client, a native VXD, ensures complete Windows 95
compatibility, enabling remote users to take full advantage of the new
32-bit operating system.

Pricing and Availability

The all new 32-bit Windows 95 version of EXTRA! Personal Client will be
available within 60 days at a price of $425 (U.S.). The existing 16-bit
version of EXTRA! Personal Client 5.0 will also ship on the same CD as
EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0 to smooth customer migration to the new
operating systems.

Windows 95 Launch Activities

In addition to participating in the Windows 95 Launch at Microsoft
headquarters, Attachmate is also participating in over thirty simultaneous
regional events across North America today. Attachmate is also
participating in Microsoft Windows 95 Launch Events throughout Europe,
Latin America and the Pacific Rim. Attachmate was selected as one of the
15 companies to sponsor and staff their own midway game (EXTRA! Spin) at
the Launch Event and will be demonstrating EXTRA! Personal Client 6.0 in
two other locations at the Launch.
