AT&T to make Internet as useful and easy as phone service

August 15, 1995 -- BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- AT&T today announced plans to
provide its 90 million business and consumer customers with unprecedented
access to the people, information and services they want by making the
worldwide Internet of computer networks and other online services as
universally available, and as easy to use, as telephone service.

"We intend to take the Internet from the realm of the cyberspace pioneers
to the world of everyday use," said Alex Mandl, executive vice president
and CEO of AT&T's Communications Services Group.

AT&T said it has created three new businesses charged with making it easier
for individuals and companies to get on the Internet and for businesses
there to interact with their customers more securely and efficiently.

AT&T WorldNet(SM) Services, headed by vice president Tom Evslin, will make
the Internet uniquely useful to individuals and businesses and easily
accessible whether they are at home, in the office, or on the road. AT&T
WorldNet Services will give customers superior, easy-to-use dial-up and
dedicated Internet access with powerful navigational tools and information
directories.

Hosting and Transactions Services, headed by vice president Kathleen
Earley, will provide businesses with a range of services to help them
reach more customers, promote their products, publish electronic catalogs
and handle secure sales transactions through the Internet. Ultimately,
this will make the emerging industry of electronic commerce as vibrant and
broadly accepted as toll-free 800 services are today.

"AT&T has the computer networks and technological know-how to build
electronic storefronts on the Internet," said Mandl. "Now we've organized
these assets into a business that can help even our smallest customers put
an electronic version of their sales catalog on the Internet and make it
secure and interactive."

A new content services business is already working with content owners to
provide tailored information and entertainment services to consumers,
professionals and businesses. AT&T will also package content within broad
interest areas to give content providers the widest possible audience for
their services. Caroline Vanderlip, vice president of Content Services,
and Michael Kolowich, President of AT&T Interchange Online Network, will
each lead content services initiatives.

AT&T WORLDNET SERVICES

For many people, reaching the Internet is a yet-to-be-tried challenge:
they're unsure how to access the Internet or how to find the information
or services they want among the trillions of bits of information stored on
computers there. To overcome these hurdles, AT&T is working with several
leaders in the Internet industry to develop AT&T WorldNet Services:

Netscape A leading provider of browsers and other Internet
client/server software, will provide a preconfigured,
               AT&T- branded browser.

Harley Hahn Internationally-recognized Internet author of the
popular Internet Yellow Pages Directory, and its
publisher, Osborne/McGraw Hill, will develop exclusive
Internet exploration capabilities for AT&T WorldNet
Service offering users guided tours of the Internet
organized by themes and special interest areas.

McKinley Inc. A leader in developing Internet resource directories,
will develop navigational tools to guide AT&T WorldNet
               users around the Internet.

Verity Corp. The leading designer of Internet search and retrieval
tools will offer the Verity Topic technology for
powerful Internet full-text search and personalized
information agent capabilities within AT&T WorldNet
               Services.

Adobe Systems This software developer will provide its leading-edge
Acrobat software for viewing, navigating and printing
rich digital information, Internet text and images.

AT&T WorldNet Services are designed to be especially user- friendly to
reach a very broad customer base, including many people who have never
tried an online service or are very new to the Internet. For existing
Internet users, AT&T WorldNet Services will work with most of today's
popular Internet browsers.

The services will feature the same world-class care that customers have
come to expect from AT&T. Customers of other AT&T services will be
eligible for special pricing on AT&T WorldNet Services.

Technical trials of AT&T WorldNet dial-up service will begin within 60
days. More extensive customer trials will quickly follow, with expansion
to full service availability in a regional rollout.

AT&T already provides business customers in some areas of the country with
AT&T WorldNet Services' managed Internet access. Offered in conjunction
with long-time Internet service provider BBN Planet, a subsidiary of Bolt,
Beranek & Newman, it allows businesses to access, plan, set up, operate,
manage and maintain dedicated, leased-line connections to the Internet.

It also offers expert implementation support and active monitoring of
service levels with problem diagnosis and resolution. National
availability of managed Internet access is scheduled for September 1.

Over time, existing AT&T services will be enhanced to include Internet
capabilities. For example, AT&T is working with Novell Inc. to ensure that
business customers with AT&T NetWare Connect Service will be able to use
AT&T WorldNet services as a common Internet access vehicle. Those using
AT&T Easylink; and AT&T PersonaLink Services can already exchange messages
with others on the Internet. And AT&T Interchange Online Network, a
network of specialized information services developed by independent
content partners, will offer integrated Web browsing in September and
access to full Internet resources by year-end.

"AT&T already has the widest range of communications services enabling
consumers and businesses to keep in touch with families, clients and
information--anytime, anywhere," Mandl said. "Now, we're expanding the
vision to open up a new world of online services and electronic commerce
possibilities."
