Apple Offers QuickTake 100 Users Upgrade to QuickTake 150 Functionality

Program Provides Better Image Quality and Resolution, More Storage,
Software, and Close-Up Lens

CUPERTINO, California--August 2, 1995 -- Underscoring its reputation for
high customer satisfaction, Apple Computer, Inc. today announced an
upgrade path for users of its original Apple QuickTake 100 digital camera
to move up to the functionality found in the latest QuickTake 150 camera.
The announcement marks the first program of its type in the emerging
digital photography industry.

Significance

The Apple QuickTake 100 Upgrade Program is designed for current owners of
Macintosh and Windows versions of the Apple QuickTake 100 digital camera.
The upgrade provides these users with the advanced functionality found in
the QuickTake 150, at a competitive price.

Product Summary

Upgrade participants receive most of the enhancements found in the
QuickTake 150, including new, more powerful Macintosh or Windows software,
a close-up lens, and three AA lithium batteries for longer use between
battery changes. Upgraded cameras enjoy double the storage capacity (16
high-quality or 32 standard-quality images) and improved overall image
quality. Better overall image quality is achieved via a new compression
algorithm found in the QuickTake 150 which increases the base resolution
to 640 by 480 pixels for all images, compared to 320 by 240 pixels for
standard resolution images found in the original QuickTake 100. The new
close up lens is capable of accurate close-ups from ten to fourteen
inches, offers flash diffusion and a range finder for
"what-you-see-is-what-you-get" close-ups, and ensures that the QuickTake
customer and the camera are seeing the same thing (parallax error
correction).

The Macintosh upgrade includes Apple's PhotoFlash 2.0, a powerful,
flexible, and easy to use image editing application with support for
PhotoShop plug-ins. In addition to QuickTake camera support, PhotoFlash
capitalizes on other Apple technologies including QuickTime and
AppleScript, and is optimized for use with the Power Macintosh.

The Windows upgrade includes QuickTake 1.5 software for accessing camera
images, enhancing images for brightness and color, resizing, cropping,
rotating and saving in popular Windows formats. Also included in the
Windows software is PhotoNow! from PictureWorks, a TWAIN driver capable of
acquiring images from the camera and capturing images while connected to
the computer from within any TWAIN compliant Windows application. TWAIN is
an industry standard for acquiring image-based information.

Price and Availability

Upgrades are available in the U.S. and Canada for $199 plus tax. This
special offer runs from August 2 through November 30, 1995. The price
covers all costs of the upgrade, including shipping and handling.
QuickTake 100 owners can upgrade their cameras by calling 1-800-399-5111.
Payment for the upgrade can be made via Visa, Mastercard, or purchase
order for non-taxable organizations. A prepaid shipping container will be
sent to the customer. Customers then ship their QuickTake 100 cameras by
Federal Express to the upgrade center. Cameras will be returned within two
weeks, upgraded and accompanied by the QuickTake close-up lens, new
software and batteries.

Apple is also offering a special price on software for cross platform users
who purchased the QuickTake 100 Connection Kits for using the camera with
both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. At the time of the upgrade
order, the appropriate software for Macintosh (PhotoFlash 2.0 and other
camera software) or Windows (QuickTake 1.5 application and PhotoNow!) will
be available for an additional $49 plus tax.
