Harris Corporation Licenses Newton Technology to Automate Telephone
Diagnostic Test Systems

CUPERTINO, California--August 1,1995--Underscoring the growing momentum
behind the Newton platform, Apple Computer, Inc. and Harris Corporation
announced today that Harris is the latest company to license Newton
technology. Harris' Dracon Division will utilize the Newton technology in
its Craft Digital Assistant (CDA), an integral component of Harris' new
concept for communication technicians, the SuperTech 2000 Mobile
Communications and Information System. The SuperTech 2000 CDA has been
ruggedized by Harris to withstand the rigors of the telephone servicing
field and is the first Newton product with backlighting.

Based on Apple's Newton technology, the Harris CDA is designed to automate
telephone technicians' access to Legacy operating systems, the dispatching
and remote test systems employed by many phone companies today. The system
provides telephone technicians with intelligent tools that allow for
mobile, wireless communications, saving time, money and personnel
resources. The wireless networking capability makes the field technicians
more productive, allows the telephone company to minimize expensive
internal processes to locate sources and provides increased customer
satisfaction.

"Harris, with its long history of experience in interactive telephone line
test systems, is well positioned to offer a specialized line of Newton
platform products that will meet the needs of the telephone repair
industry," said Sandy Benett, acting vice president for Apple Computer's
Newton Systems Group. "Harris' solution illustrates the rich architecture
and flexibility of the Newton development platform and the caliber of
solutions capable using Newton technology."

"The capability of the Newton platform has allowed a long-time dream of
mine to finally be realized," said Ken Selig, Harris' Director of
SuperTech. "The Apple reputation for quality products and network
integration capabilities has provided a core acceptance of our SuperTech
2000 product family right from the beginning. The awareness of the Newton
technology throughout all segments of business, coupled with our
division's 30-year understanding of the outside plant environment,
generated credibility and interest from day one."

In licensing its Newton technology to Harris Corporation, Apple makes a
significant move to extend the Newton platform into major vertical
markets. Apple is currently working with more than 170 system integrators
and value-added resellers to create custom solutions for markets as varied
as field services, healthcare, education, real estate, and sales force
automation. With its powerful development tools and seamless integration
into existing computing environments, the Newton platform is ideally
suited to meet the wide ranging needs of the vertical customer. To date,
there are more than 1,000 commercial and custom and applications that run
on the Newton platform, including products from desktop developers such as
NOW Software and Intuit Corporation.

Companies that have licensed Newton technology include an impressive list
of leading manufacturers worldwide such as Motorola Corporation; Harris
Corporation; Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co., Limited; Sharp Corporation;
Toshiba Corporation; Siemens; and Alcatel. In January 1995, Motorola
released its Marco Wireless Communicator, a Newton device that features
built- in, two-way wireless radio capabilities, ARDIS Personal Messaging
services and RadioMail. Also in January, Apple released the MessagePad
120, its third generation hardware product based on Newton technology.
Developed with customer feedback in mind, the MessagePad 120 represents
Apple's continued commitment to and evolution of products based on Newton
technology and offers unrivaled information management and communications
capabilities for customers.
