Versit Invites ECTF and ECMA to Review Computer Telephony Specifications

Versit Companies Join ECTF

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California -- July 31, 1995 -- Today the Versit companies
cooperating in Computer Telephony Integration (Apple, AT&T, IBM, Novell
and Siemens) announced that they will bring the results of their CTI
development efforts (Versit CTI Encyclopedia including Versit TSAPI) to
the Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum (ECTF), enabling review and use by
the companies represented in this forum. In support of these efforts, the
Versit CTI companies are also joining ECTF.

The CTI Encyclopedia Versit is developing is a set of specifications
including feature definitions, protocols and APIs based on TSAPI. It will
be openly available to all interested parties with delivery targeted for
year end, 1995.

"Versit believes it is important to work with industry bodies such as the
ECTF and ECMA as we define our CTI specifications," said Larry Jacobs,
Managing Director of the Versit CTI project. "This demonstrates our
commitment to deliver specifications for an open, cross-platform
architecture; it is a major step towards non-proprietary architectures for
the emerging CTI market."

"I am very pleased that Apple, AT&T, IBM, Novell and Siemens are joining
the ECTF," said Tom Zenisek of Northern Telecom and ECTF president and
chairman. "The ECTF and the computer telephony initiatives of these five
companies are complementary in their efforts to bridge diverse
technologies in order to meet the interoperability requirements of
customers and the computer telephony industry."

Versit has been defining specifications and working with standards
organizations and industry forums to promote cross-platform
interoperability. In the area of CTI, Versit sees ECTF as a forum for
industry leaders and technology providers in complementary areas to submit
their solutions and together work towards creating interoperability
specifications among them - for example, products based on Versit TSAPI
can interoperate with products based on SCbus and/or MVIP hardware.

TSAPI is based on CSTA, the internationally accepted standard developed by
ECMA. "Novell joined Versit's CTI call control effort to rapidly enhance
and evolve TSAPI, and to allow customers to benefit from enriched
multivendor interoperability and support," said Prem Uppaluru, Vice
President and General Manager of Novell's Telephony Services Division.

"We believe the perspectives and expertise of the ECTF and ECMA will
further enhance TSAPI's contribution to the CTI industry in a manner
consistent with broader industry objectives."

Other Versit Industry-Wide Initiatives

The recently announced Versit Personal Data Interchange (PDI) specification
and GeoPort Universal Network Port specification are openly available
without license or royalty fees. Sample code for implementation of the PDI
specification is now available from the Versit home page on the Internet
World Wide Web (http://www.versit.com). In addition, Versit recently
endorsed the Salutation industry group mission to provide customers with
cross-platform interoperability solutions. Salutation announced that it
will support the Versit PDI specification.

Versit is an initiative of Apple, AT&T, IBM and Siemens that seeks to
eliminate barriers to effective communication and collaboration by
developing and promoting open, cross-platform specifications for a wide
range of computer and telephony platforms, operating systems and products,
including telephones, PBXs, computers, networks, servers and personal
digital assistants (PDAs).
