PCI Developers Deliver More Solutions to More Customers With New Power
Macs

BOSTON, Massachusetts--August 7, 1995--In tandem with today's product
announcements rounding out the new Power Macintosh line, Apple Computer,
Inc. today hailed yet another wave of PCI (Peripheral Component
Interconnect) solutions from its hardware developers, reaffirming Apple's
continuing commitment to adopt industry standards like PCI into its
product line and bring customers the most powerful, easy-to-use and
diverse range of solutions possible.

Customers now have more options available than ever before to customize
their systems to the specific needs of their professions. The Power
Macintosh 7200 and 7500 models are targeted to large, medium and small
businesses as well as the home office market, whereas the 8500 model is
geared towards the publishing, media-authoring and technical markets. Now,
the self- employed business professional as well as a large publishing
company can take advantage of the variety of new solutions available as a
result of the PCI expansion bus. From video- conferencing and media
authoring solutions to publishing, data acquisition and high-speed
networking, the PCI bus, together with more than 800 native software
applications, brings it all to the Power Macintosh at more affordable
prices than ever.

"The new PCI bus architecture in the new Power Macs, with its tremendous
data transfer rates, allows us to do things like digital video editing,
media authoring and image creation much faster than before. Recently,
using a Power Mac 8500, I was able to turnaround a job on an incredible
deadline that I otherwise would not have been able to do," said Harry
Mott, Education Director, American Film Institute and owner of Mott 4, a
company specializing in broadcast design, interactive prototyping and
digital media.

The move to the PCI expansion bus also opens development opportunities for
both traditional PC and Macintosh developers. Apple is working with over
300 developers pursuing PCI products-- many of whom have until now,
developed exclusively for the PC platform--and to date, more than 70
developers have announced PCI products for the new Power Macs.

"The adoption of the PCI SCSI for the Power Mac family brings a new level
of flexibility, power and features to typical Macintosh applications that
require high performance I/O," said John Hamm, vice president and general
manager of Adaptec's Enterprise Computing Group. "We are thrilled to be
part of Apple's PCI Developer community and are committed to supplying
Power Macintosh users with easy to use, scalable, high performance I/O
solutions."

Developers who are making PCI related announcements today include: ATI
Technologies Inc., Data Translation, Distributed Processing Technology
(DPT), Electronic Imaging Systems, Inc. (EIS), FWB, Inc., miro Computer
Products Inc., National Instruments, Number Nine Visual Technology
Corp.Rockwell Network Systems, Second Wave, Inc., and YARC Systems.

The adoption of PCI in the Power Mac family underscores Apple's commitment
to provide "fit-in" compatibility with industry standards. Any PCI product
which complies with the PCI 2.0 specification, with the addition of a
software driver, can be used in the new Power Macintosh computers. Not
only does the move from NuBus to PCI allow PC developers access to the
Macintosh market, but traditional NuBus developers can now leverage their
solutions into the PC marketplace with very little additional investment.

The Power Macintosh 7200, 7500 and 8500 join the recently introduced Power
Macintosh 9500, rounding out the mid-range and hi-end of the Macintosh
family, and complete the product line's transition to the industry
standard PCI bus. The new Power Macs comprise the industry's highest
performing personal computers with superior price/performance features.
Previously standardized on NuBus, the Macintosh family of products is
transitioning to PCI.
