Apple Makes Direct Internet Access Quick and Easy with the Apple Internet
Connection Kit

Integrated Solution Includes Netscape and Other Popular Internet Software,
Plus Key Features from Apple to Facilitate Internet Connection

BOSTON, Massachusetts--August 7, 1995--Apple Computer, Inc. today launched
the Apple Internet Connection Kit, giving Apple Macintosh customers a
quick and easy way to gain direct access to the Internet. With the Apple
Internet Connection Kit, Macintosh computer users can be up and running on
the Internet in as little as 30 minutes.

The Apple Internet Connection Kit is a selection of the most popular
Internet applications from third party companies, including the Netscape
Navigator and RealAudio Player from Progressive Networks, as well as
Claris Emailer Lite.

The kit includes the Apple Internet Dialer, software designed to make it
simpler for Macintosh customers to register with a qualified Internet
Service Provider (ISP) and get connected to the Internet. To help users
work with their Internet applications, the Apple Internet Connection Kit
includes Apple Guide software for on-line assistance.

"Apple has a rich history of making technology easily accessible. We have
the same goal with the Internet," said Ike Nassi, vice president of system
software technology for Apple. "Apple has taken the process of getting
direct access to the Internet-- something that can be confusing for even
the most sophisticated user--and made it as simple as possible. By
coupling leading commercial software products with Apple-designed
technology, such as Apple Guide and the Apple Internet Dialer, we've taken
the mystery out of directly accessing the Internet and made it possible
for users to get going in a fraction of the time."

With the introduction of the Apple Internet Connection Kit, Apple now
offers customers a growing number of choices for Internet access.
Families, students and first-time users can choose to access the Internet
through eWorld, Apple's on-line service. eWorld provides simple, one-click
access to the Internet from the friendly environs of eWorld's Town
Square--a managed environment of content and community relevant to Apple's
key markets. Experienced Macintosh computer users and LAN managers
interested in standardizing on a single set of tools can choose the Apple
Internet Connection Kit, with availability expected in September, for
direct access to the Internet.

In developing the Apple Internet Connection Kit, Apple signed an agreement
with Netscape Communications Corp. to distribute Netscape Navigator, the
leading browser for the Internet, on a worldwide basis. The agreement also
includes joint technology adoption and product development efforts.

"The path that brings users onto the Internet should be as smooth as
possible," said Marc Andreessen, vice president of technology for Netscape
Communications Corp. "The inherent ease-of-use of the Macintosh makes it a
good platform for the Internet. Now with the Apple Internet Connection
Kit, Apple combines this platform with Netscape Navigator to create a user
friendly way to explore the Internet. Going forward, Netscape and Apple
are exploring all the ways our respective technologies can work together
to continue to provide Macintosh users with the best possible Internet
experience."

Apple has included a version of its Claris Emailer Lite electronic mail
package to provide users with a fast, flexible and easy way to manage
email messages. Claris Emailer Lite takes full advantage of Macintosh
system software capabilities such as drag- and-drop attachment of files,
drag-and-drop creation of URLs and desktop clippings.

Guy Kawasaki, originator of the idea for Claris Emailer and current Apple
Fellow, said, "Email is one of the 'killer apps' of the Internet and
Claris Emailer Lite makes email as smooth as possible. Together with
Netscape and other tools, we expect this product to make the Macintosh
platform synonymous with 'Direct Internet Access'."

All-in-One Connection Kit Speeds Up the Process of Getting on the Internet

Before the introduction of Apple's all-in-one solution, gaining direct
access to the Internet was a complicated process. Typically, the process
included contacting an ISP and arranging service--a step that can take up
to two weeks to complete--and assembling the necessary software pieces,
either by downloading shareware or obtaining them from the ISP. Many users
were left feeling confused, frustrated and unable to take full advantage
of what the Internet has to offer.

Apple has simplified the process of getting on the Internet by including
two key pieces of technology that make direct access to the Internet much
more accessible for computer users. The Apple Internet Dialer was designed
to speed up the Internet connection process. With a few clicks of the
mouse, a customer can sign up with a qualified ISP and get connected to
the Internet in a matter of minutes.

The ISP takes the customer's configuration information, handles system set
up and ensures that all software in the kit runs properly. Users can
choose to establish an account instantly with Portal, Internet MCI, UUNet
or Netcom, or use the kit with the ISP of their choice.

To provide additional user support during the set-up process, the Apple
Internet Connection Kit includes an Apple Guide on-line help feature.
Unlike other on-line help approaches, the Apple Guide software provides
real-time assistance, walking the customer through a specific process to
completion. Apple Guide provides support for all of the applications
included in the Apple Internet Connection Kit.
