Apple Support Helps Provide "Access to the World" to NGO Forum on Women in
China

US$1 Million Technology Sponsorship Underscores Commitment to China Market

CUPERTINO, California -- August 15, 1995 -- The Apple Pacific division of
Apple Computer, Inc., today announced that as the primary technology
sponsor, it will provide technology support worth over US$1 million for
the NGO Forum on Women, the parallel non-government forum to the United
Nations (UN) Fourth World Conference on Women, to be held in Beijing,
China from August 30 through September 8, 1995.

The NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) Forum on Women and the UN
Conference on Women share a common goal and present a unique opportunity
for the international community to cooperate and establish a strategy of
action to improve conditions for women in all aspects of social, economic,
cultural and political life.

"Millions of women and men around the world will benefit when women expand
their use of technology to further the global agenda for equality," said
Supatra Masdit, Convener of the NGO Forum on Women. "Computers will make
the NGO Forum in Beijing one of the most accessible global town meetings
ever held. Individuals and organizations around the world will be able to
contribute to a wide range of discussions and dialog via e-mail."

Held in the Beijing suburb of Huairou, the NGO Forum is expected to attract
over 40,000 delegates from 185 countries, making it one of the largest
international events hosted by the Chinese Government.

"We're very pleased that the NGO Forum has chosen Apple as a strategic
partner in this historic event," said Robin Abrams, Vice President and
Managing Director, Apple Asia. "Our technology, especially in the area of
multilingual computing, offers us a unique opportunity to meet the needs
of the conference organizers and attendees. We hope that they will
discover how our technology can enhance the way they work, communicate and
learn," she added.

As the primary technology sponsor, Apple will provide Macintosh hardware
and software to the NGO Forum Secretariat for use in preparation and
during the Forum in Beijing. The NGO Forum will be working in English,
French, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese. Apple will be providing Macintosh
systems in English, but through Apple's WorldScript technology, attendees
also can work in Chinese, Japanese, French, Arabic and Spanish.

TRAINING, TECHNICAL SUPPORT, INTERNET ACCESS

Apple will assist with the development of a computer infrastructure;
provide training and office support for NGO and Chinese Organizing
Committee staff; and offer on-site technical support for a host of
activities during the 10-day Forum, including a Business Center, a Press
Center, and the Daily NGO Forum News. In addition, Apple plans to assist
the Forum with its connection to the rest of the world by making Forum
communications available on its Internet worldwide web page. Apple has
also designed and will staff a Training Center to help women explore the
potential of technology to enhance their lives.

The Business Center will provide support for plenary speakers, enabling
them to craft presentations and speeches that can be presented in the main
plenary hall using Apple's multimedia technology. The 'Exploring Your
Potentials' Training Center will give delegates the unique opportunity to
try out the Macintosh platform along with a wide range of applications;
Apple's Newton Technology will be used to help manage the flow of people
at the training center.

At the Press Center, Apple will provide computer facilities for writing,
editing and transmitting stories via Internet connections. Apple, a
recognized leader in the publishing market, will also provide desktop
publishing tools for the NGO Daily Forum News. Apple's QuickTake digital
camera's will be used to capture images of the meeting for inclusion in
both printed and online media.

Apple's support includes a team of nearly 80 volunteers working on-site,
both in Beijing and Huairou. The volunteers - mainly Apple employees with
diverse backgrounds and skills - will provide a wide range of technical
support in conjunction with the Chinese Organizing Committee (COC),
hands-on training for attendees as well as creative design and
administrative support for speakers and conference management.

Macintosh computers have a long history of supporting languages other than
English including non-Roman languages such as Japanese, Korean and
Chinese. Apple's WorldScript technology allows multiple languages to be
used on a single Macintosh. With WorldScript-aware word processors that
support multiple languages in a single document, users can switch between
languages on the fly.

Apple recently targeted China as an area of great strategic importance and
potential. The company is committed to making the Macintosh platform a
standard of choice for Chinese developers and users alike, and to helping
contribute to the growth of China's software industry, which is a key
focus for the country at this time.

Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized pioneer and innovator in the information
industry, creates powerful solutions based on easy-to-use personal
computers, servers, peripherals, software, online services, and personal
digital assistants. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple (NASDAQ:

The NGO Forum is the parallel non-government forum to the United Nations
(UN) Fourth World Conference on Women. The NGO Forum is a unique
opportunity for women to measure the true impact of global change on their
