Apple Gives Middle and Secondary School Librarians and Students Greater
Access to Research Information with Products that run Macintosh, DOS and
Windows Software

Cupertino, California--August 9, 1995--Committed to providing school
libraries with powerful information access, Apple Computer, Inc. USA
Division today unveiled two new products designed to meet the research
needs of middle and secondary school libraries. These new products are the
Library Research Station and the Library Research Server. They are the
latest additions to the Apple Education Series, a suite of products and
programs that help educators effectively use and integrate technology into
their learning environments.

The Library Research Station and the Library Research Server are bundled
with an outstanding collection of CD-ROM-based reference works. The
bundles are designed to help middle school and high school libraries
create a stand-alone electronic research system or set up a network-based
server for accessing CD data. Both bundles are designed to provide
software compatibility with DOS and Windows.

"The role of school libraries is evolving as they are increasingly becoming
hubs of electronic information for schools," said Terry Crane, Ed.D, vice
president and general manager of Apple USA's Education Division. "Our new
library products are so easy to use that librarians don't have to be
technological experts in order to manage electronic resources. Students
who are turning to CD-ROM-based material are finding they can access the
resources quickly and easily, and obtain high quality information that is
always timely."

The Apple Education Series : Library Research Station is ideal for
libraries interested in implementing Macintosh-based technology that is
designed to provide software compatibility with DOS and Windows. The
bundled products consist of hardware, a collection of the most popular
research CD-ROMs, and documentation as follows :

* Hardware : The Macintosh LC 630 DOS Compatible with an internal CD-drive,
a flexible computer that runs Macintosh, Windows and DOs applications.

The Apple Education Series : Library Research Server represents a great
value to libraries interested in introducing a more advanced server for
distributing CD-based data over a network. With the server connected to
the school's computer network, students at workstations throughout the
building can have access to the same or different CD-based resources
simultaneously, making the most of their in-class research time. The
Library Research Server is also a complete Windows-compatible distribution
system and can provide access to more varied and timely resources than
could otherwise be affordable in print form. The bundle consists of
hardware, networking software, a broad collection of library research
CD-ROMs and documentation as follows :
