Andyne and Arbor announce new level of multidimensional database
portability

Andyne PaBLO with Slicer/Dicer lets users carve-out any section of the
Arbor Essbase database they need and take it on the road

August 8, 1995 -- Kingston, ON, Canada--Andyne Computing Limited announced
today that it will begin shipping PaBLO Slicer/Dicer 1.0 today.
Slicer/Dicer enables Information Systems (IS) personnel to carve out data
from their HyperCube datasources resident in Arbor Software's Essbase
multidimensional database (MDD) or any relational datasource and give it
to departments, groups, or individuals. Users can now take their data with
them on a road trip or put it on any desktop. Decision makers are no
longer chained to the corporate LAN when they need to do multidimensional
analysis and reporting --and users don't have to bring a complete Essbase
database with them either--just the piece they need. Further, IS can
specify the chunks of data users need and automate the process so users
have the freedom to slice data with out ongoing IS involvement or
dependency. Slicer/Dicer comes bundled with the PaBLO HyperCube Utilities
Kit. The kit is list priced at $99 U.S. per user copy. PaBLO lists for
$695 per user copy.

"Major corporations are using Essbase to build multi-gigabyte planning and
analysis applications ," said James Dorrian, president and CEO of Arbor.
"Andyne's Slicer/Dicer makes it easy to distribute a subset of Essbase
data so mobile and remote users can leverage the information in Essbase as
easily as analysts on the corporate LAN."

A. Cameron Thompson, President and CEO of Andyne, added, "With PaBLO's
Slicer/Dicer user's can actually carve-out the piece of the Arbor Essbase
database they need, store it on a laptop and take it on the
road--Slicer/Dicer raises mobile computing to a new level."

Some of the other benefits of the Andyne/Essbase partnership are:

Managed Query Environment--The Andyne-Essbase solution gives customers what
experts call a Managed Query Environment (MQE). Andyne pioneered MQE,
which synchronizes IS expertise and end-user freedom by providing
enterprise-wide consistency and security harmonized with decision makers'
needs for flexibility and timely reporting.

Multi-platform support--PaBLO clients running on Microsoft Windows 3.1,
Windows For Workgroups 3.11, 32-bit Windows NT, and Apple Macintosh System
7 (currently in development) are able to access the Essbase server running
on OS/2 or Windows NT or Unix.

Scalability -- PaBLO HyperCubes are advanced multidimensional data
structures that provide unparalleled access to summary information stored
on laptops, desktops, or Arbor's Essbase. PaBLO and Essbase combine to
deliver a highly scalable client/server solution for multidimensional
analysis.

Open Architecture --PaBLO uses popular client/server middleware such as
Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Data Access Language (DAL). PaBLO
supports Open Systems standards with Microsoft's OLE, the Messaging
Application Program Interface (MAPI), and Apple's Publish and Subscribe.

PaBLO is decision support software that lets decision makers harness the
power of multidimensional data sources from their desktops. PaBLO's
document-based interface lets decision makers create complete reports
integrating text, graphics, tables, and charts, providing unlimited views
of their business data. Users don't need to be spreadsheet wizards or
learn a complex data access language like SQL because PaBLO's innovative
HyperCube technology helps IS professionals serve up summarized data,
fine-tuned to meet the needs of individuals, departments, and entire
organizations.

Essbase is used for planning and analysis applications which require a
defined analytical structure, consolidated actual, projected and derived
data, multi-user, read/write data access and consistently fast response
time regardless of database size. Essbase operates effectively within a
data warehousing strategy or as a standalone, departmental solution.
Essbase operates on servers running Windows NT, OS/2 and UNIX across all
major networks connected to Windows, Macintosh and UNIX clients. Pricing
starts at $43,250 for a five concurrent user license.

In two surveys conducted by META Group's Application Development Strategies
Service, Arbor's Essbase topped the list as the multidimensional database
server most widely evaluated as part of a data warehousing strategy. The
surveys queried MIS professionals attending the META Group/DCI Data
Warehouse conferences in New York and Orlando, Florida held earlier this
year.

Andyne is a leader in the development and marketing of Decision Support
System (DSS) software with over 55,000 installations worldwide. The Andyne
Integrated Solution brings together three major sources of business
information to enable better business decisions. Andyne GQL. is an ad hoc
query and reporting tool for relational data sources. Andyne PaBLO is an
OLAP (online analytic processing) client tool for multidimensional data
sources. Andyne's entry into the structured text and SGML market is an
open, client/server, document repository and browser, designed for large
scale applications. The product, code named Rosetta, is scheduled for
release in 1996. The Andyne Integrated Solution, combining the GQL, PaBLO
and Rosetta technologies, will create the first cross-platform Decision
Support suite capable of accessing and analyzing information from
relational databases, multidimensional databases and structured text
repositories in a single view. The DSS suite will provide a common report
interface for accessing all corporate information--users will simply
point-and-click to access the business information they need and combine
results from the various sources in one view to enable integrated analysis
and reporting. Andyne's applications offer easy-to-use, visual interfaces
that can be customized to suit business needs. Andyne services all of its
products through consulting, training, and technical support.
