Andyne first DSS vendor to provide data access and analysis over the Web

With Andyne PaBLO's Slicer/Dicer users can down load summarized data over
the Web to do sophisticated trend analysis from remote locations

August 8, 1995 -- Kingston, ON, Canada--Andyne Computing Limited announced
today that Andyne PaBLO users will now be able to use the World Wide Web
(WWW) to access multidimensional data. Multidimensional data is
summarized, trend-level information decision makers use to spot trends in
their businesses and make more effective, strategic decisions.
Furthermore, with PaBLO Slicer/Dicer 1.0 also announced today, users and
Information Systems (IS) personnel can carve out data from their HyperCube
datasources resident in multidimensional databases (MDBMS), such as
Arbor's Essbase, or any relational database (RDBMS). IS can serve-up the
HyperCubes over the WWW to departments, groups, and individuals. Users can
now take their data with them on a road trip or put it on any desktop.
Decision makers are no longer chained to the corporate LAN --and users
don't have to bring the entire database with them either--just the piece
they need. Moreover, IS can specify the chunks of data users need and
automate the process so users have the freedom to slice data without
ongoing IS involvement or dependency. Slicer/Dicer comes bundled with the
PaBLO HyperCube Utilities Kit. The kit is list priced at $99 U.S. per user
copy. PaBLO lists for $695 per user copy.

"Today's corporation is mobile. Businesses which give users decision making
capability whenever and wherever they go, are businesses which are in
touch with their market," said A. Cameron Thompson, President and CEO of
Andyne. "Over the Web, or over any network, decision makers can use Andyne
PaBLO to get at their corporate information. And with Slicer/Dicer, PaBLO
users can actually carve out the custom piece of the database they need,
store it on a laptop and take it on the road--Slicer/Dicer with OLE
automation and the WWW raises mobile computing to a new level."

David Waugh, PaBLO Product Manager for Andyne, added, "Once users have the
information they need on their laptop PaBLO lets them navigate easily
through summarized business data--to annotate, compare, calculate, and
illustrate a multitude of business variables on the fly. PaBLO's
document-based interface lets decision makers create complete reports
integrating text, graphics, tables, and charts, providing unlimited views
of their business data." - more

Another unique advantage of using Slicer/Dicer over the Web is that
decision makers can easily extract: the subset of data that they need from
the central or departmental HyperCubes, and then download it to their
remote computer. All of the subsequent access, analysis and reporting then
takes place on the desktop, freeing up precious network bandwidth.

download an evaluation software from our WWW home page and access a number
of sample HyperCubes over the Web to get a feel for the capabilities of
PaBLO and the benefits of remote access. In addition, Andyne will be
announcing OLE support for PaBLO through various browser clients which
will enable customers to automate the building and delivery of HyperCube
data.

Andyne is a leader in the development and marketing of Decision Support
System (DSS) software with over 55,000 installations worldwide. The Andyne
Integrated Solution brings together three major sources of business
information to enable better business decisions. Andyne GQL. is an ad hoc
query and reporting tool for relational data sources. Andyne PaBLO is an
OLAP (online analytic processing) client tool for multidimensional data
sources. Andyne's entry into the structured text and SGML market is an
open, client/server, document repository and browser, designed for large
scale applications. The product, code named Rosetta, is scheduled for
release in 1996. The Andyne Integrated Solution, combining the GQL, PaBLO
and Rosetta technologies, will create the first Decision Support suite
capable of accessing and analyzing information from relational databases,
multidimensional databases and structured text repositories in a single
view. The DSS suite will provide a common report interface for accessing
all corporate information--users will simply point-and-click to access the
business information they need and combine results from the various
sources in one view to enable integrated analysis and reporting. Andyne's
applications offer easy-to-use, visual interfaces that can be customized
to suit business needs. Andyne services all of its products through
consulting, training, and technical support.
