ANCOR COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES GENERAL AVAILABILITY OF GIGABIT SWITCH

TESTS DEMONSTRATE GIGABIT BANDWIDTH AND VERY LOW LATENCY

Minneapolis, MN -- August 2, 1995 -- Ancor Communications, Inc. today
announced general availability of the FCS 1062 Fibre Switch, a
high-performance LAN fabric based on ANSI-standard Fibre Channel
technology that offers 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) bandwidth per channel.

Steve O'Hara, Ancor's President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "The
dramatic increase in the speed of processors and bus architectures has
made legacy LAN technologies a bottleneck that limits the throughput
customer realize from high-performance workstations and personal
computers. Ancor's gigabit switch eliminates this problem, and enables
customers to finally take full advantage of the bandwidth offered by
high-performance architectures like SBus and PCI."

The Company reported that internal tests of the FCS 1062 Gigabit Switch
have shown the product to be capable of delivering full gigabit per second
bandwidth and extremely low latency: 20 microseconds for Class 1
connections and 26 microseconds for Class 3 64-byte frame latency. The
product can scale from networks of 8 ports up to 192 ports. O'Hara said,
"By delivering both very low latency and high bandwidth, the FCS 1062
provides effective performance that is unmatched by any other technology."
Prices for the FCS 1062 Fibre Switch, which has already been shipped to
several customers, start at $39,995.

The FCS 1062 joins other members of Ancor's Fibre Channel switch family,
including 16 and 64 port models of the FCS 266 Fibre Switch, which
delivers transfer rates up to 266 Megabits per second (Mbps) full-duplex
between communicating nodes. Network interface adapters available from
Ancor include SBus, MCA, EISA, VME/64 and PCI-bus. Adapters for PCI-bus
and SBus architectures are available in both 266 Mbps and 1 Gbps versions.
All Ancor products comply with ANSI X3.230 Fibre Channel standard.

Ancor Communications Incorporated (Nasdaq Small-Cap Market: ANCR) is the
leading provider of networking products based on Fibre Channel, an
ANSI-standard communications technology used to build the world's fastest
local area networks. The Company's products include Fibre Channel
switches, adapters, routers and application-specific integrated circuits
(ASICs). Ancor was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Minnetonka,
Minnesota.
