AMERICAN MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES BUSINESS PARTNER AGREEMENT WITH LOTUS
DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Agreement Follows Company's Successes with Notes in Health Care,
Government, and Business Consulting Environments

August 21, 1995 -- Fairfax, VA -- American Management Systems (AMS) today
announced a business partner agreement with Lotus Development Corporation
under which AMS will offer Lotus Notes products and related application
design and development services to large enterprises nationwide. AMS has
fifty full-time Notes developers, consultants, and administrators who will
support projects for AMS clients in the company's health care, government,
and commercial practices.

"This agreement will enable AMS to extend its range of advanced document
management and work flow solutions for large organizations," said AMS vice
president Peter Gretz. "AMS has successfully used Notes internally on a
large scale, and we have worked with clients to implement Notes-based work
flow applications. Now we can resell Notes, have access to pre-release
versions of Notes and related Lotus products, and partner with Lotus in
business development for large-scale applications."

As an early adopter of Notes technology, AMS used Notes to develop the AMS
Knowledge Express, the company's internal repository of best practices,
methodologies, and technical knowledge. The AMS Knowledge Express gives
over 2,500 AMS consultants and software developers worldwide immediate
access to the company's key intellectual property.

Lotus Notes is a client/server-based, collaborative computing (or
"groupware") tool that enables teams within or across enterprises to share
knowledge bases and to work together using pre-defined forms and work
flows. Notes includes a powerful replication mechanism for sharing data
bases across multiple servers throughout an organization.

AMS will apply Notes immediately within its health care vertical market.
"We are currently beginning a new project with a hospital system to apply
Notes to streamline financial management practices," said Gretz, who
manages AMS's health care practice.

AMS recently used Notes to develop XPEDITE, a communication system to
support rapid donor-recipient matching and movement of donated organs to
medical transplant centers. According to the United Network for Organ
Sharing (UNOS), this system reduces by several hours the average time
required to place donor organs by allowing transplant centers to evaluate
potential matches in parallel, thereby saving lives.

AMS has also created work flow applications for human resources and
financial accounting processes at other organizations, using a variety of
Notes add-on products including Lotus Notes: Document Imaging (LN:DI),
Lotus Field Exchange (F/X), and Lotus Notes Visual Programmer (ViP). AMS
created a document imaging system for storage and retrieval of engineering
drawings for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), using LN:DI,
the best-integrated Notes imaging tool for medium-scale imaging
databases.

AMS's business is to partner with clients to achieve breakthrough
performance through the intelligent use of information technology. AMS is
a business and information technology consulting firm that provides a full
range of services: business reengineering, change management, systems
integration, and systems development and implementation. AMS, which
recently completed its 25th consecutive year of growth, is headquartered
in Fairfax, Virginia, with offices in 41 cities throughout North America
and Europe. AMS's revenues for 1994 were $460 million.
