ALADDIN SHIPS STUFFIT EXPANDER FOR WINDOWS 1.0

New freeware utility offers one-step universal file decompression

Watsonville, CA (August 8, 1995) -- Aladdin Systems today began shipping
StuffIt Expander for Windows 1.0, a freeware product which gives Microsoft
Windows users an easy way to expand compressed files downloaded from
online services and the Internet. StuffIt Expander for Macintosh already
has millions of users, since it is freely distributed, is easy to use, and
is capable of expanding almost any compressed file found online.

StuffIt Expander for Windows expands files from the most popular archiving
and compression formats found online, including StuffIt(tm) (.sit) and Zip
(.zip). StuffIt Expander will also expand files in uuencoded (.uue),
BinHex (.hqx), and MacBinary (.bin) formats, such as those commonly found
on the Internet. Other archive formats supported include Arc (.arc), Arj
(.arj), and gzip (.gz). StuffIt Expander will also expand self-extracting
archives created by StuffIt, Zip, and Arj.

"StuffIt Expander for Windows is Aladdin's solution for PC users who have
been asking for an easy way to handle the myriad of file formats found
online," says Marco A. Gonzalez, President of Aladdin Systems. "Finally
Windows users can enjoy the same one-step file expansion that millions of
Macintosh owners have had for years."

StuffIt Expander for Windows has features expressly designed with the
online user in mind. For example, a user can configure StuffIt Expander to
perform periodic checks on the contents of a specified directory (called a
"watch directory"), so that any new files added to the directory will be
automatically expanded. With this feature, a user can set StuffIt Expander
to expand files in the background while others are being downloaded. Users
can also associate compressed file types with StuffIt Expander, so that
double-clicking a compressed file will automatically expand it.
Alternatively, a user can drag and drop files on StuffIt Expander to
expand them.

StuffIt Expander sports a toolbar which gives users easy access to StuffIt
Expander's most important features, such as expanding files, setting
destinations for expanded files, and configuring cross-platform options.
StuffIt Expander's cross-platform settings make it easy for Windows and
Macintosh OS users to exchange compressed files, without worrying about
file format differences. StuffIt Expander for Windows also offers a
comprehensive help system designed to assist users with the operation of
the software. Power users will also benefit from the help system's special
notes section.

StuffIt Expander for Windows is copyrighted, free software. It is primarily
distributed through online information services, bulletin board systems,
the Internet, user groups, and freeware/shareware collections. All Aladdin
freeware and shareware software is available from Aladdin Systems'
Internet FTP site (ftp://ftp.aladdinsys.com/), and the Aladdin online
forums, including CompuServe, America Online, eWorld, and the Internet.

Founded in 1988, Aladdin Systems, Inc. is credited with creating the
