New PCI-SCSI Host Adapter Cards give users high performance and
compatibility with hundreds of SCSI peripherals

(NYSE:WDC) today announced its first series of PCI-SCSI Host Adapters that
simplify installation and operation of high performance SCSI peripheral
devices. Designed to optimize performance in PCI-based workstations,
servers and high-end personal computers, Western Digital's new PCI-SCSI
Host Adapters -- WD7296, WD7197 and WD7193 -- give users easy connections
to high-performance SCSI drives, CD-ROMs, scanners and tape drives.

All three Western Digital PCI-SCSI host adapter cards are complete Small
Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) solutions for Peripheral Component
Interface (PCI) computer bus systems. The Fast SCSI adapters are
compatible with SCSI-2 and SCSI-3 devices and feature bus master Direct
Memory Access (DMA) for high performance in even the most demanding
multi-user environments. The high-end WD7296 supports more than 256 active
tasks on-board for maximum throughput in I/O-intensive server
applications.

Western Digital bundles the industry's leading SCSI software, CorelSCSI,
with its products sold through distribution. CorelSCSI works in
conjunction with Western Digital's proprietary software for comprehensive
SCSI peripherals support, giving users the freedom to choose the

With Western Digital's proprietary FLEXware configuration utility, users
can easily modify default parameters such as establishing the boot drive
and tuning the SCSI bus for optimum performance.

The PCI-SCSI Host adapters are also PCI Plug-n-Play compliant with
automatic configuration and automatic termination control. Since all
configuration is automatic or handled through software there are no
switches or jumpers to set, which means fast, trouble-free installation.

Western Digital's PCI-SCSI Host Adapters give users optimum system
performance for fast I/O throughput without slowing down other system
processing elements. The WD7296, for example, has five DMA channels for
data transfer, SCSI command block transfers and instruction code overlay,
which combined, allow its internal 16 MIPS RISC processor to continue
processing new commands while a data transfer is in progress. This design
gives users top system performance, even with busy client/server
networks.

The WD7296, WD7197 and WD7193 are available in the PCI short card form
