New Web Superstar Addressed in Quick Tour

Ventana title navigates readers through the World Wide Web

Chapel Hill, N.C.; April 4, 1995--With the growth of the Internet's World
Wide Web being further bolstered by the arrival of the acclaimed new Web
browser Netscape Navigator, Ventana Press introduces Netscape Quick Tour.
This easy-to-read guide, available in both Macintosh and Windows versions,
includes instructions for downloading, installing and configuring Netscape
Navigator--the full-featured Web browser from Netscape Communications
Corporation. Upon release of Netscape Navigator version 1.1 in mid-April,
Ventana will offer Netscape Quick Tour, Special Edition, that will include
a version of the commercially supported software. The Special Edition is
scheduled for May publication.

These in-depth Netscape guides transform even newcomers to the Internet
into experienced World Wide Web travelers. The authors explain Netscape
Navigator's features in detail, including handy menus and button bars, and
teach readers how to use Netscape for a full range of Internet
services--including file transfer (FTP), Gopher, e-mail and USENET
newsgroup management.

The Netscape Quick Tour series also provides visual, step-by-step
instructions for designing a Web page and a brief overview of editing with
HyperText Markup Language (HTML), the standard language for creating Web
documents. Readers will tour the authors' favorite sites and learn how to
search for topics of personal interest. Two appendices--one on
undocumented Netscape Navigator features and the other on common error
messages--along with a glossary and index make these Quick Tours excellent
reference guides.

In a unique blending of traditional print with online technology, each book
features an Online Companion--a continually maintained site on Ventana
Online, providing fully hyperlinked versions of listings along with access
to free utilities and links to current Netscape and Internet resources.

The World Wide Web is an interconnected "universe of documents" that exists
within the Internet-linking text, graphics, sound and video into a web of
information. Web documents are written with HTML, which allows these links
to be created within parts of the same document, between documents and to
attached media files.

The Web's hyperlinks transform HTML files into three-dimensional documents,
allowing the user to follow threads of interest. Every document on the Web
can be potentially linked to every other document, thus putting the "web"
into World Wide Web. Today, the Web is the most widely used,
fastest-growing area of content on the Net, with more than 1,200 servers
added weekly. According to recent published statistics from busy World
Wide Web sites, approximately 70% of computers logging in are using
Netscape Navigator. But these estimates only tap the surface of users'
interest in this high-performance browser.

Author Stuart Harris wrote The IRC Survival Guide (Addison-Wesley) and
contributes to Online Access magazine. He also leads the San Diego
Computer Society's Internet Sig.

Author Gayle Kidder has published more than 500 articles in newspapers and
magazines. She is an HTML expert and maintains her own Web page of
cultural events for the city of San Diego.
