UB NETWORKS ANNOUNCES FIRST HUB-BASED AUTOMATED MANAGEMENT APPLICATION

INTRODUCES NETSTORM TERMINATOR, DRAMATICALLY INCREASES NETWORK UPTIME,
IMPROVES BANDWIDTH AVAILABILITY, AND REDUCES NETWORK ADMINISTRATION COSTS

Networld + Interop, Las Vegas -- March 28, 1995 -- UB Networks today
announced NetStorm Terminator -- the industry's first automated management
application in an intelligent hub. The NetStorm Terminator application
combines policy management with automated management capabilities to
deliver a much higher level of network uptime, improved bandwidth
availability, and reduced network administration costs. NetStorm
Terminator fulfills UB Networks' promise to deliver automated management
that brings users closer to the goal of "lights-out" network management.

"When Access/EMPower was announced in October 1994, it revolutionized
network management," said Marius Abel, general manager, Network
Applications Division. "NetStorm Terminator delivers more automated and
more distributed management than has been previously available."

NetStorm Terminator is the first of a class of embedded applications
designed to make use of UB Networks' advanced Access/EMPower distributed
management system. The NetStorm Terminator application resides on each
Access/EMPower-equipped hub where it automatically detects and eliminates
network packet storms caused by excessive broadcasts, multicasts and
network error traffic. NetStorm Terminator leverages Access/EMPower's
tightly integrated application environment to control and analyze RMON and
hub agents in an automated manner. Access/EMPower also provides
platform-like event management and port-to-MAC mapping database services
used by the NetStorm Terminator application. NetStorm Terminator's
automated operation is controlled by policies or rules defined by the
network administrator. Once defined, a policy can be distributed globally
to all the hubs that are to follow the prescribed behavior.

Packet storms are a serious network problem which consume valuable network
bandwidth resulting in reduced performance. Even when equipped with
advanced tools such as RMON probes, intelligent hubs, and platform-based
network management applications, isolating and eliminating a broadcast
storm can take two to four hours. NetStorm Terminator reduces network
administration costs and increases performance by allowing network
administrators to establish policies to deal with packet storms
automatically.

Availability and Pricing

The NetStorm Terminator will be available in June 1995. Bundled with a
nine-group embedded RMON agent, it is priced at $1,495. An Access/EMPower
management module with 8MB of DRAM, 512K SRAM, shipped bundled with the
NetStorm Terminator application and the embedded RMON agent delivered on a
1.8MB PCMCIA FlashCard, is priced at $7,995.
