SYSTRAN Corp. Introduces SCRAMNet+ for Increased Network Performance

Dayton, Ohio, April 3, 1995 - SYSTRAN Corp., developer of the SCRAMNet
Network (a real-time replicated shared-memory system) and SYSTRAN's I/O
Solutions (a suite of general-purpose IPack I/O interfaces), today
announced the SCRAMNet+ Network, complete with two new high-performance
protocols for increased network performance. These new protocols --
PLATINUM and PLATINUM+ -- provide increased network versatility and
throughput for the designers of real-time systems. Following are
highlights of the new SCRAMNet+ protocols:

* PLATINUM The new PLATINUM protocol uses closed loop, error corrected
operation that permits multiple, four-byte fixed packets on the ring at
the same time. This allows for a full re-transmission on error capability
without imposing insertion throughput limitations.

* PLATINUM + The new PLATINUM+ protocol combines error correction with the
same variable-length packet capabilities of the BURST+ protocol to provide
each node with insertion throughput of up to 16.7 Mbytes/sec.

The SCRAMNet+ Network also contains the BURST and BURST+ protocols that
were introduced in May 1994 with SCRAMNet-LX. SCRAMNet+ remains a
single-slot solution and is software compatible with SCRAMNet-LX and
SCRAMNet Classic. Interfaces include: VME (3U, 6U, 9U), EISA, Rehostable,
Sbus, PCI, ISA, and GIO. SCRAMNet+ is currently available with prices
starting at $2995 per node, depending on the configuration.

The SCRAMNet Network is a real-time, replicated shared-memory system. It is
optimized for the high-speed transfer of data among computers (up to 256)
that are all solving portions of the same real-time problem. SCRAMNet's
ring configuration achieves microsecond application-to-application
performance with zero software overhead. Features include data filtering
to reduce network traffic, byte swapping for automatic reformatting of
variables, interrupt passing for synchronization, and a fiber optic ring
that handles 150 Mbit/sec line transmission rates for distances up to 3500
meters between computers. Applications include simulation, telemetry, data
acquisition, instrumentation & control, and virtual reality.

Located at 4126 Linden Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45432-3068 USA, SYSTRAN Corp.
specializes in real-time networking systems, IPack I/O interfaces, and
defense-related hardware/software R&D. The company's SCRAMNet Network is a
leading real-time network, with hundreds of nodes used in diverse
applications throughout the world.
