SYBASE AND SAIC ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TARGETING HEALTH CARE
INDUSTRY

Industry-Leaders In Client/Server Target Rapid Growth In Health Care
Market

EMERYVILLE, CA, April 4,1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise Client/Server
Company, today announced a strategic partnership with SAIC (Science
Applications International Corp.). The two companies will collaborate to
develop an industry-leading client/server infrastructure supporting
commercial healthcare information systems that meet the rapidly changing
demands of the healthcare community.

"Sybase has mastered the essential database technology that is flexible
enough to integrate with our customers' existing systems, and robust
enough to meet the mission-critical requirements of healthcare networks
during the '90s," said Dave Cox, SAIC Health Care Technology Group's
senior vice president. "SAIC is excited about the opportunity to combine
technical development and laboratory resources with Sybase and focus on
real world integrated solutions for healthcare customers."

The strategic relationship with SAIC encompasses technology development,
marketing, and sales. Sybase will become a partner in SAIC's existing
Center for Healthcare Technology (with locations in San Diego, CA and
Falls Church, VA) designed to demonstrate integrated, large-scale,
distributed database solutions which integrate and leverage today's
existing health care information systems. The Center for Healthcare
Technology will provide an environment for Sybase and SAIC customers to
explore future enterprise-wide healthcare information systems solutions.
The Center will also serve as a working lab for healthcare professionals,
doctors, nurses, and other medical technologists who can benefit from
leading-edge healthcare information systems to deliver higher quality
care.

"Our partnership with SAIC is focused on enabling the healthcare industry
to provide quality care while lowering costs through increased
productivity," said Paul Albright, Sybase's director of the Industry
Solutions Group. "The combination of an open, flexible client/server
architecture with SAIC's integration capabilities will enable healthcare
customers to fully integrate information systems around a patient-centered
model."

The companies believe that the Sybase/SAIC relationship is unique in the
healthcare industry as it focuses on infrastructure development as opposed
tc specific applications. While many vendors try to work immediately on
healthcare applications, SAIC and Sybase realize that the underlying
systems architecture and standards are the important issues. Together, the
two companies can create solutions to accommodate existing legacy systems
as well as emerging clinical technologies.

The SAIC/Sybase partnership is based on a long-standing
developer/integrator relationship leveraging SYBASE products. The
healthcare partnership will further extend the relationship to focus on
industry-specific solutions. The relationship will be modeled after the
companies' partnership in oil and gas announced last year.
"Sybase has been a valued business partner with many years," said Lorenz A.
Kull, SAIC president and chief operating officer . "We are confident that
coupling our engineering talent, Sybase technology, and this focused
partnership on the healthcare market will produce essential solutions for
tomorrow's healthcare enterprise."

Employee-owned SAIC provides high-technology products and services to
government and the private sector in the areas of healthcare, national
security, environment, energy, transportation, and systems integration.
With annual revenues of $1.9 billion, SAIC and its subsidiaries have a
17,800 employees in more than 250 locations worldwide.
