SYBASE SYSTEM 10 WINS "BEST CLIENT/SERVER DBMS" AWARD FROM NETWORK
COMPUTING MAGAZINE

1995 "Well Connected" Award Presented at Networld+Interop Trade Show in Las
Vegas

EMERYVILLE, CA, April 3rd, 1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, announced today that SYBASE System 10 has won a
"Well Connected" award from the editors of Network Computing magazine
winning the category of "Best Client/Server DBMS" against Oracle 7 and
Microsoft SQL Server 4.21A. "Well Connected" means a product is open
architected and interoperates among a large variety of network operating
systems and hardware server platforms.

According to technical editors at Network Computing, "Sybase's System 10
presents the most opportunity and sits atop the DBMS world. Its
replication server capabilities are particularly useful for distributed
applications."

Sybase's System 10 was chosen over Microsoft SQL Server 4.21A and Oracle7
by the judges. Sybase's System 10 was selected predominantly because:

* System 10 offers customers flexibility in their choice of server
platforms, including Unix, NT, NetWare and OS/2;

* System 10 offers support access from the full complement of client
platforms and handles all the networking infrastructure potholes flexibly
and transparently;

* Sybase has the most flexible middleware story, with legacy mainframe and
other DBMS data sources supported with a full single system image using
OmniSQL Gateway.

Dennis McEvoy, vice president of products, at Sybase said, "We are very
proud to receive this prestigious award from the editors at Network
Computing magazine. It confirms our leadership role in database and
middleware technology. The fact that the judges are well respected
technical editors in the areas of databases and networks adds an
additional layer of credibility to the award making us even more thrilled
to receive it."

Sybase has led the database industry in connectivity because of the overall
strength of its architecture and its commitment to a freely available and
published open API (application programming interface) strategy.

The award follows closely upon last week's announcement at Interop of NIICE
(New Industry Initiative Cooperative Endeavor), a newly formed
organization committed to supporting client/server providers devoted to
interoperability and multi-vendor environments. NIICE is sponsored by
X/Open with initial participating companies including, Computer
Associates, Lotus, Microsoft, Novell, and Sybase.
