StarNine's WebSTAR (formerly MacHTTP) to be featured in Apple's
price-performance leading Internet Server Solution

StarNine announces software-only version of WebSTAR will ship in May

Internet World-San Jose, CA, 4/10/95 - StarNine Technologies, Inc.
announced today that Apple will bundle StarNine's industry-leading Web
server software, WebSTAR with its new Internet Server Solution bundle.
Formerly known as MacHTTP, WebSTAR adds significant functionality to the
most widely used commercial Web server on the Internet today. StarNine
also announced that it plans to ship a software-only version of WebSTAR
concurrent with the release of Apple's hardware bundle.

"We're delighted that Apple has chosen WebSTAR as the centerpiece for its
Internet Server Solution," said Chuck Shotton, senior vice-president of
engineering at StarNine, and the primary author of WebSTAR. "MacHTTP was
native the day Apple shipped its first PowerPC Macintosh so its very
fitting that Apple is leveraging WebSTAR to establish the Macintosh as the
price/performance leader for providing Internet publishing solutions.
StarNine will continue to work closely with Apple to ensure that the
entire Mac marketplace is aware of WebSTAR's power as a server software
solution, whether it's running an workhorse 680X0 machine or
state-of-the-art PowerPC."

Recently, Joe Holmes of Sonomo State University compared the price
performance of a Power Macintosh 7100/66 running the current version of
WebSTAR (MacHTTP 2.03) vs. a Sun SPARC IPX running NCSA's httpd,#030#
v1.3. Mr. Holmes's study concluded that "in terms of
performance-per-dollar, the Power Macintosh wins by a large margin in this
test...The Mac platform costs less to purchase and may cost far less to
support than the more esoteric UNIX platform."

"We believe that when comparing Web server price/performance on UNIX vs
Macintosh, it's important to compare apples to apples," Shotton remarked.
"If you compare $10,000 worth of Mac's vs. a single $10,000 UNIX
workstations, you can buy several Mac's and, with mirrored copies of
WebSTAR installed on each, create a powerful array of computers that
behave like a single Web site to browsers on the Net and easily outpaces
the performance of the single UNIX workstation. Add to this equation the
high-cost of UNIX expertise, and there's no doubt that Macintosh wins the
price/performance contest hands down."

StarNine previously announced that it will market a software-only version
of WebSTAR for any Macintosh. The company revealed plans this week to make
WebSTAR available both online via the Web and through traditional retail
channels on floppy disk and a CD-ROM Pack. The floppy and online versions
will contain the server application and full documentation. The CD-ROM
Pack will include Peter Lewis' FTPd server for FTP (File Transfer
Protocol) and Gopher services, AppleScript, a Web browser, as well as
content development and delivery tools. The CD-ROM Pack will also contain
demo versions of many third party Common Gateway Interfaces (CGIs) for
connecting WebSTAR to databases such as Claris Corp.s' FileMaker, ACI's
4D, and Everyware's Butler SQL as well as providing enhanced security,
threaded conferencing support, and enhanced HTML forms processing. In
addition, the CD-ROM Pack will also feature a demo version of StarNine's
Internet Listserver and EMail-On-Demand software, ListSTAR.

According to Scott Steward, vice-president of sales and marketing at
StarNine, "When WebSTAR ships in May, we plan to offer very aggressive
pricing, both for upgrades and new purchases. We expect that the entire
installed base of MacHTTP will upgrade to WebSTAR in very short order and
price-points for new customers will significantly increase WebSTAR's
already dominant market share."

Specific pricing information for WebSTAR will be made available by the end
of April.
