SPECTRUM SIGNAL PROCESSING IN PACT WITH NORTHERN TELECOM TO DEVELOP
COMPUTER TELEPHONY PBX CAPABILITIES

Burnaby, B.C., Canada -- Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. (NASDAQ NMS: SSPIF
/ TSE: SSY) announced it has signed an agreement with Northern Telecom for
the design and supply of products that provide certain computer telephony
integration (CTI) features using Northern Telecom's Meridian 1 and Norstar
digital business communication systems.

The initial contract calls for Spectrum to develop and supply several
million dollars (CDN) worth of product to Northern Telecom. The agreement
also provides for follow-on product orders.

Spectrum will supply personal computer hardware and software to Northern
Telecom that will help provide new capabilities in the way the computers
interact with the Northern Telecom communication systems.

"Spectrum's experience in using digital signal processor (DSP) technology
and computer telephony will speed our ability to introduce new features
and capabilities to our customers," said Andy Thomas, director of CTI
Applications Technology, Northern Telecom. "While Northern Telecom is
already a leader in offering computer telephony solutions, this agreement
will enable us to offer customers the full advantage of new connectivity
standards in new and innovative ways."
