SPA CHAMPIONS THE PUBLIC BROADCASTING SYSTEM'S CHARITY AUCTION PROGRAM

April 17, 1995 (Washington, DC) - The Software Publishers Association
announced today the overwhelming results of its first-ever participation
in the Public Broadcasting System's (PBS) Annual fundraising auction
program.

Winners of the SPA's 1995 Excellence in Software Award (the Codies) in the
business, consumer, and education categories were asked to donate their
winning software titles to PBS markets across the country. The SPA served
as the clearinghouse for the Codie Award winning software. In
collaboration with over 20 member companies, the SPA donated $110,000
worth of personal computer software which will benefit PBS programming
throughout the country. The 1995 PBS Auctions are conducted throughout the
year in over 70 U.S. markets.

Edye Baker, Auction Manager at WGBH, Boston's Public Broadcasting station,
said, "At this crucial time for public broadcasting, it is rewarding that
the SPA and the software manufacturers are offering support in such a
tangible way. I know that in Boston, these remarkable donations will
contribute to reaching our million dollar goal during PBS's historic 30th
anniversary year. Across the country, other stations will benefit from
these highly desirable packages and I know that bidding will be fast and
furious!"

In ten PBS markets, educational software titles were bundled with an IPC
Multimedia computer to create a high-tech tool for learning, and an
attractive auction item. Proceeds from this highly-successful program will
go to such major PBS markets as Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Denver, CO; San
Antonio, TX; San Jose, CA; St. Louis, MO; and Richmond, VA.

"The response to this program was phenomenal. It is clear that SPA members
see the value in contributing to quality public broadcasting, said Ken
Wasch, SPA Executive Director. "As Congress makes tough decisions
regarding funding for educational programming, technology in schools, and
global high-tech vocational training, it is refreshing to see private
donations thrive."

The Software Publishers Association is the principal trade association of
the personal computer software industry. Its over 1,160 members represent
the leading publishers in the business, consumer, and education software
markets. The SPA has offices in Washington, DC, and Paris, France. SPA
press releases are available on-line through Compuserve (GO:SPAFORUM) or
