PROXIM AND DIGITAL ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGY ALLIANCE

Alliance Allows Digital to Integrate Proxim 's RangeLAN2 Technology into
Future RoamAbout Wireless LANProducts

NEW YORK, N.Y., Network World Unplugged '95, April 11, 1995 -- Proxim, Inc.
and Digital Equipment Corporation announced today a strategic technology
alliance designed to provide significant benefits to the emerging wireless
local area networking (LAN) marketplace. Under the alliance agreement,
Digital has licensed the use of Proxim's RangeLAN2 core technology
allowing Digital to include frequency hopping technology as part of their
future RoamAbout wireless LAN product offerings. By combining Proxim's
radio expertise with Digital's recognized networking expertise, the
alliance will accelerate the availability of robust, standars-based
wireless LAN solutions in the global market.

Proxim's RangeLAN2 technology uses the 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) frequency band,
a wireless spectrum authorized for unlicensed wireless LAN products
throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. The 2.4 GHz band is
also the frequency range selected by the Institute of Electrical &
Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 Committee for development of wireless
LAN interoperability standards. Both Proxim and Digital are active members
in the IEEE 802.11 Committee which is chartered with the development of
the 2.4 GHz wireless LAN standard.

Proxim currently offers wireless LAN products based on its 2.4 GHz
RangeLAN2 technology. The technology is designed for high-performance,
mobility-based wireless LAN applications. Based on secure,
interference-immune, frequency hopping spread spectrum technology,
RangeLAN2 offers the longest range, highest capacity, and most advanced
wireless network architecture of any wireless LAN product in the 2.4 GHz
band. RangeLAN2 operates at an uncompressed data rate of 1.6 megabits per
second (Mbps) per channel with 15 available channels. The RangeLAN2
architecture incorporates state-of-the-art features such as seamless
roaming, power management, advanced wireless security and site survey
diagnostics.

Digital's family of RoamAbout wireless LAN products capitalizes on
Digital's high-performance bridging expertise. The RoamAbout Access Point
is a full featured SNMP managed, non-radio centric wireless bridge
supporting multiple wireless technologies. Based on Digital's innovative
hub module design, the RoamAbout Access Point is a compact,
easy-to-install unit that can function as a standalone device or as a
DEChub module. Because of its flexible wireless bridging design, adding a
new frequency hopping technology to the RoamAbout Access Point is a simple
software upgrade.
