PROGRESS SOFTWARE'S CRESCENT DIVISION MEETS PROMISED SHIP DATE FOR POWERPAK
PRO

PowerPak Pro Meets Needs of Visual Basic Developers Seeking to Increase
Productivity, Have a Single Support Source and a Standard VB Toolset

Bedford, Massachusetts, April 19, 1995 -- Progress Software Corporation
(NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced that its Crescent Division has begun
shipping its first new product offering, PowerPak Pro, the most complete
suite of professional Visual Basic (VB) development tools available from,
and supported by, a single source. PowerPak Pro combines the best
commercially-available Visual Basic tools and components to enable users
to more effectively build and deploy workgroup and departmental
applications.

"The reaction to PowerPak Pro, which we introduced in early March at VBITS
in San Francisco, has been extraordinary," said Jennifer J. Bergantino,
director of the Crescent Division. "PowerPak Pro is filling a void in the
market -- offering VB users and teams a set of the most needed tools, with
a single support source, in a variety of product categories. A number of
customers have told us they expect to evaluate PowerPak Pro as their
standard VB toolkit. And this is only the first of many new products; we
expect the Crescent Division's future products to be met with the same
level of enthusiasm as PowerPak Pro."

Analyst reaction to the Crescent Division's overall strategy of
complementing Visual Basic has been positive. In a Forrester Research
brief, dated February 22, software analyst Don DePalma wrote, "Progress
(Crescent Division) brings to VB a long history of helping developers
build high-performance database applications."

PowerPak Pro's product suite provides functionality in four key areas:
professional development tools; database access; team programming; and
deployment and configuration management tools.

In addition, PowerPak Pro offers users the key benefit of focused,
solutions-based support. Rather than call several vendors for support,
PowerPak Pro users call a single number for assistance. Knowledgeable
Crescent support engineers, well-versed in VB applications development,
are available to answer their questions.

PowerPak Pro Release 1.0 supplies the following key functionality:

- Professional Development Tools - PowerPak Pro brings to Visual Basic a
rich, full featured set of development tools to help developers augment
application development, including a wide array of custom controls, a
data-bound grid, and printing aids, as well as routines to help in API
programming techniques.

- Database Access - PowerPak Pro is "data-aware" and offers developers a
wide assortment of tools for database access. PowerPak Pro manages large
data-access problems through its list and grid controls and manages the
results from large-scale queries. Taken together, these capabilities offer
powerful data presentation tools for such applications as DSS and EIS.

- Team Programming - PowerPak Pro includes a source code management (SCM)
system designed specifically for Visual Basic development teams. PowerPak
Pro's SCM is tightly integrated with Visual Basic and is an integral part
of the VB project window. PowerPak Pro includes features such as well
controlled check-in and check-out procedures for forms and modules, to
ensure developers have control over code design and implementation. This
allows for creativity in development, while maintaining control over
source code.

- Deployment Tools - PowerPak Pro's deployment tools allow developers to
closely manage resources and component versions to ensure all components
of the application are distributed properly, and remain "in sync."

PowerPak Pro is available direct from Crescent and through various
developer-focused reseller channels. PowerPak Pro will initially be
marketed and supported in North America. An international product rollout
will follow later this year.

The suggested retail price for PowerPak Pro is $1,195; however, PowerPak
Pro is available for $795 directly from Crescent at 1-800-35-BASIC as a
limited introductory offer ending June 30, 1995. Users who own one or more
of the component products in PowerPak Pro can "crossgrade" for $595, also
through June 30, 1995.
