OPTIKA INTRODUCES NEXT GENERATION REPORT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

FilePower Report Management System (FPreport) COLD System Features
Redesigned GUI, Hyperlinks, Improved Querying and Administration, and ODBC
Database Support

SAN FRANCISCO, CA., April 10, 1995--Optika Imaging Systems, a global leader
in high-performance, client/server document imaging, workflow systems and
development tools, today introduced its next generation report management
system, FPreport v4.0. With this introduction, Optika has taken an
entirely new approach to COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk), adding a
number of major enhancements designed to make querying and administration
of report information easier.

FPreport incorporates a completely redesigned graphical user interface with
enhanced report management features, including configurable report
filters, sophisticated queries and hyperlinks, complex annotations, a COLD
API (application programming interface), ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity
standard) support, and improved system administration. The software system
replaces Optika's DataFiler/Finder product and is marketed under a new
brand name, FPreport.

"Organizations are realizing the benefits of COLD technology and the
importance of integrating report information with electronic document
management systems," said Ellen Rome, vice president of marketing for
Optika. "We listened to what our customers were saying and incorporated
their suggestions to take a whole new approach with FPreport, making it
easier to use and integrating it with Optika's full suite of client/server
document imaging, workflow systems and development tools."

FPreport is geared for end-users in information-intensive industries and
horizontal financial applications, such as accounts receivable, credit,
collections, and customer service. The software system indexes, stores and
manages corporate report information on optical and magnetic disk.

According to A.J. Wand, Optika product manager, computer reports represent
valuable information that is traditionally stored on paper or microfiche.
"FPreport allows companies to handle this critical data in electronic
form, store it efficiently on optical disk, and manage it along with other
documents and corporate data."

Wand added that the key benefits to implementing COLD technology include
improved access to information, higher productivity and lower operating
costs. "Ultimately, all of this allows an organization to provide better
customer service and gain a competitive advantage. An additional benefit
of FPreport is that it is integrated with Optika's document management and
workflow systems -- reports can be managed in the same document folders to
take advantage of the same optical, print and fax servers."

Redesigned Graphical User Interface Makes Sophisticated Features Easy To
Use

Optika has completely redesigned the user interface for FPreport, making it
highly graphical in order to simplify the task of searching for needed
report information. In addition, FPreport is closely integrated with
Optika's FPmulti document management system and FilePower servers,
allowing users to display multiple pages of reports simultaneously with
images and other electronic documents. This universal viewing capability
allows users to display information from multiple applications and work
with various types of documents and data concurrently, making them more
efficient by better replicating a familiar paper-based desktop
environment. Report definition is performed through a graphical tool with
field validation and error checking. All report definition information
resides in an ODBC-compliant database.

Report filters allow users to manage reports in a hierarchical tree
structure (similar to Microsoft Windows File Manager) and pare down their
view of the report list. Filters provide sophisticated display and sorting
of the report list by application, report title and date. Unlike
information stored on paper, FPreport provides a facility for searching
report information on combinations of indexes across one or more reports.
Users can also save often-issued queries for re-use.

FPreport also includes a unique hyperlink capability that links multiple
reports based on a common index value. Similar to the links in Microsoft
Windows Help, FPreport hyperlinks make viewing related reports in the
system just a mouse click away. A link to another report, such as a
customer's account number, appears in a
different color. Users can jump to related reports by clicking on the
links, rather than running additional queries.

Users can annotate reports several different ways with FPreport v4.0,
allowing them to record messages directly on a report page. Redlining
allows users to draw lines of any length, color and orientation anywhere
on a document. This enables users to strike out obsolete information, or
emphasize important data by underlining it. A user can block out sensitive
information by placing a black or white rectangle over it with the
redaction feature, or "highlight" any region of a page with color
overlay.

Additionally, users can type text anywhere on a report, in any color, or
place a "sticky" note on the page. All of these annotations can be printed
or faxed with the report, just as they appear on the screen. A SEC-secure
(Securities and Exchange Commission) version that disables annotations is
also available. In addition, graphical form overlays allow reports to be
displayed and printed exactly like the original paper versions.

"I am thrilled with the new look-and-feel. The user interface is very easy
to work with. Searching is simpler, more powerful and extremely fast."
said Karen Dennis, imaging administrator at Chaparral Steel Company.
"Hyperlinks are a terrific concept -- this feature alone will help us to
streamline our operations by allowing users to jump from report to report
quickly to find the information they need. Annotations such as underlining
incorrect information in reports, adding comments with sticky notes and
leaving audit trails will enhance communication between users and increase
the value of each report over time.

Powerful Underlying Architecture

FPreport incorporates an ODBC-compliant database to manage report
cataloging and system administration functions. The database can reside in
a shared file system or on a dedicated server, according to the needs of
the application. This enhancement provides improved performance and makes
an FPreport solution scaleable. For example, users can start with a
Microsoft Access database and migrate to SQLServer or Oracle in a
client/server environment, if required.

When a user's needs go beyond a shrink-wrapped solution, Optika's FPengine
API toolkit is available for developers to create custom imaging and COLD
applications. The toolkit provides facilities for storage and retrieval,
manipulation and display of scanned images, computer-generated reports and
other standard business document types. FPengine incorporates Optika's
FilePowerViewer technology and the APIs can be used with standard third
party development tools and languages, such as C, Visual Basic, and
PowerBuilder.

Pricing and Availability

Release 4.0 will be available in the second quarter of 1995. Pricing ranges
from $425 to $895 per user, depending on the number of users. Additional
information about the product is available from Optika at (719) 548-9800.
