HOSPITAL SELECTS OPTIKA FOR COMPLETE SOLUTION

Optika Awarded Its Largest System to Date

SAN FRANCISCO, CA., April 10, 1995--Optika Imaging Systems, a global leader
in high-performance, client/server document imaging, workflow systems and
development tools, today announced it has been contracted to provide a
patient accounting and medical records management system to St. Elizabeth
Medical Center. The $3.7 million project was awarded to Optika and
VanAusdall & Farrar, Inc., an Optika Business Partner, and is the first
site scheduled for installation of Optika's MediPower products.

St. Elizabeth Medical Center is a 500 bed hospital with facilities in
Covington and Edgewood, Kentucky. The sites are linked together by T1
lines to allow distributed access to patient medical records, with plans
to roll out workstations at physician offices. The system will provide for
secure access to historical records and demographic data, as well as
current electronic documents such as transcriptions and lab reports.

"We are excited about the prospect of giving physicians access to charts
from their offices," says Cathy McDannold, St. Elizabeth Medical Center's
director of medical record services. "The new system should enhance
patient care as well as ease administrative chores like chart completion.
It also gives us a graceful migration path to an electronic patient
record."

Optika's MediPower Group was formed in 1994 to develop and market document
management solutions to the needs of the healthcare industry. "Optika has
been very successful in this market with its standard imaging and workflow
products," says Dick Holzman, vice president of Optika's MediPower Group.
"St. Elizabeth is an example of how we can provide even more value with
products specifically designed to meet the healthcare market. Automated
bulk remittance processing is another good example."

"We are experiencing a tremendous growth in our out patient volumes, and we
must search for ways to cut our labor costs to handle the billing and cash
application processes," said Kit Millette, director of patient accounting.
"We are also seeking ways to streamline tasks, from pre-registration
through collection to expediting the processing of all functions. Document
imaging, in conjunction with sophisticated workflow applications, will
provide each of our users with the immediate task to be completed, as well
as all the documentation required to complete the task. Management will
have the tools necessary to direct, monitor, and adjust the workflow
process. This will save valuable time that will be redirected to more
productive activities when our document imaging system is fully
operational."

The first modules have been installed at the hospital, and backfile
scanning of medical records will begin shortly. The system is expected to
be in production in the fall of 1995, with all modules and features
completed by mid 1996. The six-phase project includes medical records and
patient billing document storage, workflow processes for patient billing
and chart completion, auto-indexing of documents, bursting and filing of
HBO and financial reports (COLD), and automated bulk remittance
processing.
