NETCOM Changes the Face of Internet Connectivity

NEW VERSION OF NETCRUISER OFFERS UNPRECEDENTED FREEDOM OF CHOICE

WinSock Compliance Leads Pack Of Enhancements

April 10, 1995 -- SAN JOSE, Calif.--NETCOM On-line Communication Services,
Inc., (NASDAQ: NETC) today unveiled a new WinSock compliant version of
NetCruiser, the company's award-winning graphical user interface for the
Internet. With this version NetCruiser now provides Internet access
flexibility unprecedented in the industry.

NETCOM introduces full support for the Windows Sockets (WinSock)
Application Programming Interface (API), which combined with NetCruiser,
offers customers the freedom to use the Web browser of their choice and
couple it with the best value in Internet access. With NetCruiser 1.6
Internet users, for the first time may choose from among the
WinSock-compliant packages on the market.

"NetCruiser's ease of use, value pricing and state-of-the-art network has
placed NETCOM in the role as an industry innovator," said Dave Garrison,
president and chief operating officer. "To move forward in Internet
access, NETCOM developed a WinSock compliant version of NetCruiser in
response to our customers' request. As a result, NetCruiser 1.6 greatly
enhances the value our customers receive using NETCOM's services along
with opening the most affordable door to the Internet."

"Our goal is to offer customers the flexibility of choosing their own Web
browser, such as NetScape or MOSAIC, and couple it with Internet access on
NETCOM's proprietary nationwide, high-speed digital network," said Don
Hutchison, vice president of sales and marketing for NETCOM. "NETCOM
users, from the seasoned Internet veteran to the first-time novice, can
now enjoy exploring the Web while exercising their personal preference
regarding features and front-ends."

NetCruiser 1.6 also includes a series of additional enhancements that offer
users more tools for navigating the Internet. New features include a
Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME), a print function for
World-Wide Web, and built-in sound support. In making the already-heralded
NetCruiser registration process even easier, version 1.6 has the
capability for NetCruiser to automatically recognize most modem types.

Among the other popular features in NetCruiser 1.6, MIME email support
offers users the option of attaching any file from a personal computer
(including spreadsheets, word processing documents, etc.) to an email
message. In addition, NetCruiser 1.6 gives users the ability to print not
only text, but graphics as well.

But its not enough for users to easily navigate the Internet, if getting
connected is a hassle. The NetCruiser registration process, already known
as one of the fastest and easiest, has been made one step easier with
automatic modem detection. The software automatically recognizes the most
popular modem types, eliminating the often confusing step of inputting
modem type and speed (especially when the modem is embedded in the
personal computer). NetCruiser users are then up and running on the
Internet faster than any other solution on the market.

Finally, NetCruiser's new built-in sound support lets users take advantage
of the plethora of multimedia offerings currently available. NetCruiser
users with multimedia PCs, while browsing the World-Wide Web, can click
and listen to sound.

Existing NetCruiser subscribers can immediately upgrade to NETCOM's latest
version, free of charge, by downloading the software over the Internet
using the software's point-and-click "upgrade" command. New subscribers
will be able to purchase this affordable software at computer retailers
nationwide or by calling NETCOM at (800) 353-6600.
