PROGRAM SET FOR FIRST CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO MECHANICAL DESIGNERS USING
AUTOCAD

San Francisco -- April 4, 1995 -- An outstanding slate of AutoCAD and
mechanical design experts will assemble for MechanCAD, the first industry
conference focused on strategies for maximizing AutoCAD productivity in
mechanical design. Running from May 1-3 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago,
Illinois, MechanCAD conference sessions will feature detailed technical
information and discussion of the changes occurring in the mechanical
design industry.

The three-day conference features 58 different technical courses, a
tabletop exhibition of products and services for mechanical designers, and
an opening reception with keynote address by Dr. Joel Orr, noted
writer/consultant and director of LEAP (the League for Engineering
Automation Productivity). Dr. Orr will address the future of mechanical
design and the next wave of major changes in the way that designers
interface with computer data.

"The design challenges of the future will require a kind of kinesthetic
feedback that currently available modeling tools don't offer," said Dr.
Orr. "Virtual reality, even within its present limitations, provides
designers with an important level of immediacy and intimacy for
simulations and prototyping that will inspire creativity and better design
solutions. My talk will explore the developments in human interface
technology and applications software that will make this technology useful
for mechanical design."

In addition to his consulting work, Dr. Orr is manufacturing series editor
for McGrawHill, and co-founder of the NCGA (National Computer Graphics
Association). He is currently president of the Virtual Worlds Society, a
non-profit organization that has developed out of the University of
Washington human interface lab.

While Dr. Orr's keynote will focus on emerging technologies for mechanical
CAD, the conference sessions will deal with day-to-day working issues for
AutoCAD users and departmental managers in industries using mechanical
design. AutoCAD users interested in improving their productivity by
learning new tools and refining their skills can choose from 43 different
technical courses, with subjects ranging from new features in AutoCAD
Release 13 to concurrent engineering. Other classes, geared toward
management level attendees, will focus on topics such as infrastructure
development, running AutoCAD in networked and client/server environments
and product data management. The classes will be presented by leading CAD
users, consultants to the mechanical CAD community and employees of
Autodesk.

"The MechanCAD Conference was created to respond to the growing demand for
information on developments in mechanical CAD/CAM/CAE," according to Ted
Bahr, vice-president of the Electronic Design Division of Miller Freeman,
Inc. "More than half of all AutoCAD users are involved in the fields of
manufacturing and mechanical design. We expect that this conference will
become a primary resource for information and new ideas in this growing
field."

MechanCAD is the first conference, designed specifically for AutoCAD users,
to address the important changes occurring in the mechanical design
industry. The conference is produced by Miller Freeman, Inc., the nation's
third largest trade show producer, and publisher of CADENCE magazine,
AutoCAD Tech Journal and Virtual Reality Special Report. A wholly-owned
subsidiary of United Newspapers plc of London, England, the company
produces dozens of electronics and software conferences and trade shows,
including: Autodesk University Conference and Exhibition, The Embedded
Systems Conferences (East and West), PCB Design Conference, Surface Mount
International, and OS/2 World Conference and Exhibition.
