LOTUS ANNOUNCES CAMPUS-WIDE LICENSING PROGRAM FOR ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS

New Option to Academic Passport Program Offers Aggressive Price on Full
Lotus Product Line for Students, Faculty and Staff

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 4, 1995 -- Lotus Development Corp. today announced
the Total Campus Option, a product pricing program that offers the rights
to use core Lotus products on every campus computer, including
student-owned machines, for a small per-user annual fee. The cost for a
campus is determined by multiplying the total number of full-time
equivalent (FTE) of students, faculty and staff by the appropriate fee.
Included in the fee is help-desk support and upgrade maintenance which
provides the school with technology assistance and current product
releases of Lotus software throughout the year.

An enhancement to the Lotus Academic Passport program, the Total Campus
Option offers institutions of all sizes, whether K-12 school districts or
universities, a highly affordable, easy to understand, easy to purchase
licensing program. Since the entire school is licensed for Lotus products,
there is no need to track individual users or to provide Lotus with
license reports. The cost of the program is consistent year after year,
which allows schools to anticipate the cost of software and plan their
budgets accordingly.

"There is a clear need to integrate technology into the fabric of education
today," said Alan Minard, Lotus academic market manager. "The Total Campus
Option frees institutions to be more creative in the use of software
technology to enable more progressive, fundamentally new approaches to
education."

According to Frank Urso, manager for client communications and consulting
at Harvard University's Office for Information Technology, "This new
campus-wide option is far and away the most economical program available
today. In an institution as decentralized as Harvard, it encourages a
different perspective on how software purchases are handled. By removing
the hurdle of a high cost per user, those people making IT decisions who
once were hesitant about the costs associated with client software,
development and training will seriously consider participating in this
program."

In addition to the Total Campus Option, schools can benefit from aggressive
discounts for individual products through the Lotus Academic Passport
Contract and Volume Purchase options. Participants in the Total Campus
Option are automaticaly eligible to purchase individual and companion
products at the highest discount level through the Contract Option.
Accredited academic institutions who wish to purchase full shrinkwrapped
products can do so at significant discounts through a Lotus authorized
reseller.

TEAM COMPUTING AT ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS

The Total Campus Option helps academic institutions implement a team
computing strategy, which asserts that the success of teams depends
largely on their ability to complete a process from beginning to end, and
to make better decisions by including the input and ideas of all team
members. In academic settings, groupware such as Lotus Notes is an
effective way for teams to communicate with one another, collaborate on
various projects and coordinate activities such as remote learning, team
teaching and administrative procedures.

The Lotus team computing strategy is driving its offerings of tools and
technologies specifically designed to help teams improve productivity by
gathering, processing and distributing information accurately and
efficiently.
