INTERGRAPH'S ISMP6 ACHIEVED OVER 400 TRANSACTIONS PER SECOND USING THE SQL
SERVER BENCHMARK

HUNTSVILLE, AL, April 24, 1995 -- Intergraph Computer Systems announced the
best TPS rate for Windows NTS and SQL Server. Over 400 Transactions Per
Second were achieved using an InterServe MP66 (ISMP66), which includes six
100Mhz Pentium processors each with 1MB of secondary cache, 256MB of ECC
memory and up to 48 Fast & Wide SCSI-2 hard disk drives. The rate of over
400 TPS1 is 25 percent better performance than any other vendors' results
to date. The TPS result was generated using the SQL Server benchmark,
which uses a single, simple update-intensive transaction to load the
system and exercise the database components necessary to perform tasks in
a transaction processing environment. This test increases the database
size as the transactions per second increase. The test stresses disk I/O
activity, application time, and transaction integrity.

This performance level proves again that Pentium microprocessor technology
can achieve equal or better results than proprietary RISC processors,
while maintaining compatibility with thousands of shrink-wrapped
applications. This performance, coupled with compatability, gives users
the best of both worlds-- without a long-term risk in their hardware
investment.

The ISMP6 first customer shipments are scheduled for this Friday, April 29.
"We very excited about the response to this product," says John
Thorington, President of Intergraph Computer Systems, "demand has far
exceeded our expectations." The ISMP6 is designed as a scalable,
enterprise-wide server oriented toward the RDBMS client/server market.
Scalable CPU performance is optimized with the use of 1MB of burst
synchronous L2 cache, a third-level "victim cache," a 400MB/s CPU to
memory bus, and 4- way interleaved, 60 nanosecond ECC DRAM. High
throughput disk and networking I/O is provided with the use of the PCI
bus, and a 3- channel, fast & wide SCSI-2 RAID controller with 8MB of
cache. The ISMP6 is available with either UNIX or Windows NT Server.
Microsoft's server suite, BackOffice, is also available.

(initial unaudited results; audited results will be published when
completed.)
